This is probably a ridiculous question to ask as the Haynes says "remove the retaining ring" (well it actually says 'reatining ring'...) like it's so straight forward and doesn't need explanation, but...

Anyone know how to remove the retaining ring for the idler gear bearing in the flywheel housing?

There is not enough showing to get any purchase on it or holes that would allow circlip pliers.

Is there actually a way of removing it and reusing it or is it a destroy and buy a new one scenario?

Cheers

Chris

well there isnt one for the idler bearing only for the nose bearing ( the one at the bottom) use a small screw driver to get the ring out, then clean properly, then bake in the oven placing upside down so the fall out, proberly take 20 mins at 180 deg c , only do when wife or mum is out because it will stink fairly.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

This trick realy worked for me, exeped i didn't clean the casing so i got a little bit of smoke*surprised* , my wife didn't smell one thing.....*happy* But a light tap with a rubber hamer and it fell right out

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

If you put the whole casing in the dishwasher first (obviously while wife/GF/other is out of the house too) you won't get so much of the smell when it's in the oven.......

Remove the idler needle roller bearing whilst it's in the dishwasher or it might get a bit rusty.....

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

No point just putting the idler case in though, you may as well get the wok and filter housing etc cleaned up at the same time *smiley*

Energy efficency and all that!

It's gone in alongside the metals racks in the Oven Pride cleaning kit bag... Leave to soak overnight - "it's so easy, even a man can do it"...

Hmmm....

Will be interested to see the result - the main cleaning agent in that stuff is sodium hydroxide which is highly reactive with aluminium (the reaction releases hydrogen so don't open the bag near any naked flames).

(we had a bag leak a couple of months ago and the goo burnt a hole in our wooden worktop so I looked up it's HSDS sheet on the web...)

Dishwashers use sodium metasilicate which is reasonably aluminium friendly.
