Thats a bit of a bummer chris.

Have a look for an independant VW specialist. They will have the knowledge and be tooled up to do the job and will be much cheaper than VW.

Phone up VW, get a price for the parts then decide how much you value your time.

That will tell you if its a good price or not *wink*

Doesn't sound too bad to me.

A decent clutch kit is about £120-£150 for a 1.4 so £200 in labour isn't terrible.

But definately shop around.

after all it wasnt the clutch it was the clutch pedal box, the bracket holding the clutch cable. apparently a common fault. still gonna cost me as much as a clutch to repair though.

I was just about to say check the pedal- we thought we had the same problem with the TT but it was in fact the clutch in the end

apparently VW didnt recall these boxes, but they did offer a full replacement free of charge. sadly mine is over 5 years old and they wont fork out. also to my complete suprise i rang VW UK yesterday and found out that my lupo is in fact a dutch import (shit). i did a vehicle check prior to buying it and nothing was flagged up and the owner never mentioned it. im going to have to get on the phone to the DVLA, great another couple of hours, probably resultings in a total waste of time.

If your vehicle check didn't show up that it was an import, then I would get onto them!

Just checked the vehicle check and it said there is no record of it ever being exported, my fault. im still going to get onto the DVLA though.

As expected the DVLA were useless, couldnt tell me whether it is registered as an import. Rang VW UK again they couldnt tell me if it was registered in the Netherlands, going to check the V5 when i get home if it doesnt state on there that is an import. fuck it i was never told by the owner and there is no record on the V5.

pedal box is a very common problem on the lupo as is gearbox problems. on clublupo several people have had the pedal box replaced for free, others have had to pay, it all seems to depend on the dealer

i spoke to the local dealer who was a bit of a cock and he said straight away not freebies. then rang VW UK and they said because it was over 8 years old and a dutch import they wouldnt pay out.
