Just seen on KAD website they won this annual race again this year,
How many times in the past 10 years have they won this ?

With all these supposed trick heads from Aus. , [ Elder head etc] and the much vaunted superiority of the BMW twink head ,
I'm surprised that it is still a KAD engined car that somehow manages to win
:)

Its not always the engine configuration, its the build quality, the rest of the car and the driver

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Indeed, Bill has been at it 30 years.

Jimbo can probably give a lot more insight, given that his mini was racing as well...
I recall tyres are another biggie on that track - as well as beating someone who knows the track exceptionally well...

Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

there are so many drovers laying claim to this title its getting silly,

and we'll never acctually find out who or what car it is as there will never be the untimate race that includes the best cars from around the world,

now if someone with enough cash would cover the expenses of said cars i'm sure they would be willing to attaend a put up or shut up race,

this would include a multi dicipline program, as many aspects of a cars performance could be measured so as to minimise any advantage a local driver may have with a circuit,

top speed,
acceleration, 0-60.0-100,0-100 -0
timed events ,
and then the race itself,

power /weight to be logged .

all sorts of this kind of stuff, eventually we'd find the fastest,

Nobody has said that the BMW head conversion is superior to the KAD conversion *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I guess these tyres help though:

Handling might be shite, but the grip must be epic.

The problem is that it is a nonsense race that tells us nothing. The result is the fastest mini in that discipline. It is like saying what is the fastest car in the world. Highest speed, easy thrust SSC (have you seen the latest attempt http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/), but that is not wheel driven and would not be as fast as a nissan micra round a race track like Donington. I could go on with examples of rally cars v F1 cars, but you probably get the point.

So all we can say is that the KAD car is a lovely piece of kit, well driven and perfectly engineered for the discipline, so well done to them.

My Car entered this race weekend, but we had crank thrust bearing problems, so could not enter the main race on the day. the lap times in my car where quick enough for an easy 3rd, but we felt the 10" miglia tyres where holding us back, we just didn't have the level of grip as the Bill with 13x9's had.

My Car during the Fastest mini in the world race 2009

IMO the regs for this race need to be tightned, at the moment the rules are, any car which looks like a mini (inc BMW) or any car with a mini engine.

Bill Richards who one the race is the ARDS instructor at Lydden Hill where the race was held, so he did know the tack pretty well. (i'd hope)

Fair play to Bill for winning the race, the pace and reliability of the car was very impressive.

We plan to be back next year with bigger rubber and previous problems resolved.

Here if food for thought, IMO there are not many people out there who are happy to pay £4k on a head from KAD and who will not pay the same if not more on a bottom end. Also, there are not many people out there who will pay around £10k on an engine and who shove it in a shed of a mini. There are also not many people out there who spend £20-40k building a mini who dont spend lots of time and money devoloping the car and setting it up perfectly. This is IMO is why the KAD engines minis go so well, it's not JUST the head, it's the whole package.

Of course you all realise I was once again shit stirring

*happy*

Obviously, it should not need saying it is only in this discipline ,

This race has been around for a good number of years with fixed regs [ ? ]

I would have thought it would be a perfect advertising arena for those companies that are bigging up their heads as superior to the KAD ones
*tongue*

As Jim says the head is just a small part. I had a spare head and thought I would build up a spare engine one winter. It actually took me nearly 5 years to complete as the parts in a KAD engine/box aren't any different to those you would want in a high spec 5 port or k headed car

Alos food for thought Bill Richard's car apparently tips the scales at 625kg (without driver) with narrower tyres r=than pictured
