Hopefully a simple one;

My house mate's stage 1 998 is having trouble starting when hot, now I reckon that the fueling is out, the carb's got a ABD needle, and the plugs were black. We've popped in a new set of BP6ESs and they've helped with the running but it's still struggling to start when hot. I reckon it's the fueling but does anyone have any other ideas?

Yep, is that likely to be the cause?

Have you tried a little bit of choke? not the fast idle bit, but actual choke? That will tell you if its lean. Try a bit of throttle, that will tell you if its rich

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Rob, is it worth just whipping the dashpot off and checking the jet height with the bridge ?

It does sound like over fuelling to me.

Easy to re-set if its an HIF38 but a bit fiddlier if its an HS4 or H4.

Got a Gunson's if you wanna borrow it.

Is the air filter clear and free from clogging as this will play havoc with mixture even if the jet height is ok ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
