I have a mg metro thermostat housing with the overflow to expansion tank take off. Could this be used with a mini cooling system? "I'll get there in the end" |

Are you intending on using an expansion tank? or do you just want to use the housing and block up the pipe?

Thats what i planned to do if you plan on using side mounted rad you will find that the fan on the water pump pulley will rub the pipe, the only way round it is to trim the fan, how this will effext cooling i dont know, but there is an electric fan fitted to mine on opposite side of inner wing, or you could just disconnect the pully fan and connect an electric one to the rad, or put a big spacer in and use longer bolts. im probably gonna be lazy and trim the fan , what does every one else think ? |

The fans are so light it makes bugger all differance what you do to them. I took half the blades of one of mine once in a weight/power reducing exercise, made no differance to anything whatsoever (except losing a few grams).

Efficiency of the fan must have been much reduced though? |

i was worried about unbalancing the fan but wil-h is right the fan is very light its the rover plastic one, you can get a rover spacer for about a fiver, from mini spares i got one of these it dosent quite make the clearance you'd need a few washers thats all. |

just trimmed my fan a moment ago and the effiency hasnt really been touched, mini-sprite, you will need to take the metal surround off the rad as this will fowl the thermo housing, just took mine for a test run and all seems fine. |
