right i plan to turbo my mini and have got myself a 1275 A series engine, now i plan to run megajolt or similar to get over the problem of the distributer out of the metro turbo not fitting. ( i know you can modify the shaft but its not something i want to do myself)

is there any other issues i should be aware of before i start?

Don't forget the drop gears and transfer case need to be for an a series engine. They A+ are different

the timing chain on mine is alreay a duplex as standard so should not be a problem.
as for the oil pump arent they just the same?

none of the above except for alternator bracket is valid.

Drop gears must be matchet (either A+ or A, no mix) but can be either.

Oil pump is the same, so is the timing chain

The oil pumps do differ, the A+ have slot drive and the pre A+ have a star drive. Unless they have been changed along with the cam....

I've also seen people machine the mains on A+ blocks to fit proper bearings...

Ok V I'll bite.

What do you class as a proper bearing?

Something that lubricates the entire main journal, and doesn't starve the big ends of oil 50% of the time.

Not such a big problem on a standard Metro (This has been proven for 25 years) but not was good when you're racing, or turning big rpm.

yep thats right, just the tab,

you can do it with a file of your carefull, or a dremel with a grinding disc and a steady hand works well.

are the turbo bearings a heavy duty bearing then? i guess it would be beneficial to get my crank cross drilled and tuftrided while its in for a grind?

Have the mains crossdrilled as well, if using the A+ bearings and high revs.

Come on then V, you have me intrigued. What is the problem with A+ shells? why do they starve oil flow? and do you have pics of crossdrilling the mains?

Paul

EDIT Do you mean cross drill the mains on the block or crank?

Edited by paul wiginton on 25th Sep, 2009.

I seriously doubt it!

It's all in here.

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=5117

Luckily my Aplus block is an early one which still uses the grooved bottom half shells (as my crank isn't a turbo one and isn't cross drilled...)

The turbo cranks aren't cross drilled either. I've never seen a factory cross drilled A+ crank.

Thats an interesting read, never heard any of that before. I run turbo shells and crank but dont have a clue if its through drilled or not, though I will check on this when its out next.
