I've also seen people machine the mains on A+ blocks to fit proper bearings... On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Ok V I'll bite. What do you class as a proper bearing? Something that lubricates the entire main journal, and doesn't starve the big ends of oil 50% of the time. Not such a big problem on a standard Metro (This has been proven for 25 years) but not was good when you're racing, or turning big rpm. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

yep thats right, just the tab, you can do it with a file of your carefull, or a dremel with a grinding disc and a steady hand works well. are the turbo bearings a heavy duty bearing then? i guess it would be beneficial to get my crank cross drilled and tuftrided while its in for a grind? |

Have the mains crossdrilled as well, if using the A+ bearings and high revs. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Come on then V, you have me intrigued. What is the problem with A+ shells? why do they starve oil flow? and do you have pics of crossdrilling the mains?

The turbo cranks aren't cross drilled either. I've never seen a factory cross drilled A+ crank. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Thats an interesting read, never heard any of that before. I run turbo shells and crank but dont have a clue if its through drilled or not, though I will check on this when its out next.
I seriously doubt it! |
