Hi

i have a 95 spi and i want to make it turbo but stay single point injection

i have read a fair few articles about changing the ecu (vems) to cope with the increase in problems with the standard rover ecu....

i am starting to buy bits to do the conversion and wonderded how well the GT15 would work on spi set up this is the one i am looking at

I'm not the guy to talk about injection, but as for your turbo choice, I would look at the larger trim Gt15,

The one you are looking at will restrict your power output somewhat.

I suppose it depends what you are after from your car though.

Hi T2clubby

i was not wanting to build turbo beast of a engine, just somthing that would make me smile when it kicked in

do you know any members who have turbo'd a spi?

i think there is 2 or 3, i looked into it a while back but for the expense id have to lay out i thought there would be better gains else where,
the fuel distribution between the inner and outer cylinders doesnt favour boosted applications too well, but for low boost there souldnt be too critical

have a look for 'sprocket' ( a member) i remember a while back he squeezed good figures from an spi, in was non turbo mind, but i think vems was his ecu of choice

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

It depends on what you mean by SPI...

The factory stuff is defined by the size of the single injector and the factory ECU that controls it.

The same is true for the factory MPI, except two injectors and some sequential control.

So the maximum fuel is already determined, not enough for turbo applications.

So if you redefine SPI as "wet manifold" or "electronic carburettor" and use an aftermarket ECU to drive it, it can be done - there are quite a few on this forum who have done so.

But a bigger injector would be required, you would have to do the maths...

The SU is a proven solution at very high power levels, but don't assume an SPI solution (ie, electronic carburettor) would be the same.... The way fuel injection works is in pulses, not continuous, so it is hard to replicate a carb.
Better, IMHO to try to do it right (ie, Jean's siamese code) but, apart from Paul (and Gerard in the USA) no-one else yet has it running on an A/B series.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
