Hi,

Im looking for recommendations for a set of good dampers please. The car is Iains old miglia,i will be using it both on the road and for track days.

The ride height will be set fairly low so and dont want to bottom the shocks out everywhere.I would also like them to have a decent amount of adjustability.

Basically i want a set that will bring out the best in the rest of the suspension setup and be suitable for both road and track.

Thanks in advance,Ross.

Migs have to run cones.

Just measure the minimum length to check. The shocks on my ex Mig have very short Trax Spax.

It did run trakspax which from what i can gather arent 100% suited to road use (also they were sold to Paul H i think).

Just to add,i dont want to go to coilovers as ive also bought the original miglia subframes to go with it and i prefer the rubber cone setup.

Edit - paul beat me too it.

Whilst you are measuring check that the shock mounting spindles have not been modified. My bottom front are now 10mm which makes things tricky.

Sorry longy, missed your question while i was writing a reply.

Well i dont mind paying good money if its good quality kit as opposed to playing trial and error with cheaper stuff. In the same breath my budget isnt unlimited but im open to any suggestions.

EDIT - Paul thanks for the tip off *wink*

Spax, Avo, Protech and Gaz are good off the shelf budget dampers kits, but they are entry level dampers. it seems to be that these are the standard for minis because usual mini owner doesnt wants to spend more. companies like Koni, Nitron might not do a mini kit but probably will build you a set for about £1000. or alternatively get a second hand set of 2 way dampers off of something like a formula ford and have they reshimmed to mini dynamics. it all depends on what your going to use the car for. a good decent set of 1 way dampers would be ideal for a track car, but if you want to race and really want the suspension dialed in perfect 2 ways would do.

AVO make the double adjustable rose jointed damper that where used in miglias a few seasons back. They are around 180 a piece if I remember right.

Forget that it's a mig. Their requirements are completly different to yours.

You are going to have to sompromise road use or track use or both. Presuming that you will be running road tyres, somethinh like a Spax, GAZ or Protec will be a good choice IMO.

You will need the shorter versions of any of them.

I had a set of extra short dampers made by Leda http://www.leda.com/ they were £100 a corner I think, seem to do the job.

I agree with wil_h. If you are going to be using the car on the road you don't want track dampers as it will be horrible. Some nice low ride height adjustable dampers from one of the above manufacturers may be your best bet.

Thanks for the advice evryone,i understand that the track damp dampers wont be nice on the road,i just dont want to bottom out a set of reglar lowered dampers if you get what i mean?

The extra short ledas that wil h has sound just the job though,i will have a look into those as well as the protecs.

If anyone has anymore suggestions just fire away.

Cheers Ross.

EDIT - Yes it will be on road tyres (yoko a032)
