I've acquired an old N/A Baldwin 1430. Am right in the middle of rebuilding the box. Whipped out the semi-helical 4.1 CWP and am wondering what the hell to do. (For a B road blaster, bit of light competition). I gather the 4.1 will wear pretty quickly and despite being a 2.54 first gear, will be a bit short legged. I'm wondering what to do.

With your long stroke a 4.1 is too much. You'd be better off with a 3.7 as you have extra torque from the 1430.
I seriously doubt it! |

I thought so. 3.7 it is then. I think a 3.44 with a 2.54 first might be a bit of a clutch smoker. I'll have a think about it.
