What a good day!!!

The mini unfortunatly was suffering from a slipping clutch, too many slick shod starts at silverstone's 0-60 run!!!

Since Castle Combe my maintainance programme involved checking the oil and washing the car on the morning of oulton park!!..hey thats me all over!!!

Due to the clutch full boost/power was'nt an option so was running a minimum 8/9 psi instead of all out 20 or so. as the engine is set up to run high boost the motor seriously over fueled only letting me rev to 5600 RPM in top, so effectively i was giving away 15 ish MPH at top end speed.

Mark and myself played with fuel pressure but to no avail, still no top end. Towards the end of the day i remembered i had standard metty turbo needle in my spares box, we fitted it and DANNERRRR!!! 7000rpm in top and no detonation!

This added to the fun and that blue Porche Carrara3 did'nt bet by so easy down the start finish straight, in fact i pulled over for him on the start finish and we went into turn 1 side by side...SCARY!

It was a great day, free rolling road!!!,tea, coffee, instruction etc.

Engine out, check over, new clutch, gaskets and seal, dyno and track day it at full boost this time.

Thanks to Mark for your help and "prelude"dave for letting us know about the day.

my views on the day , firstly i have no idea how people go along to track days without a car , first time i`ve ever been without my car but i got 7 or 8 laps in jons so it was worth it .
Oulton park is a track you have to try i would rate in alongside cadwell for sheer fun, and i can see why so many race car`s get bent as i if you come off in some places it straight into the armco. The track isn`t too hard to learn once you remember which crests you go flat out over, and riding the curbs is not always the best idea as a couple of them try to pull you into the grass.
As for jon`s car he has mentioned above the problems which were livable with and still meant you could have fun.
The other great thing was going out after jon had been "fighting " with a few things ...
i caught an audi TT up and he let me past rather too easily ... only too find out later jon had already done him , so he must have thought it was a waste of time trying to keep in front ,an old shape M3 , left hooker, took a bit more getting past but a bit of late braking into the second chicane saw him off at the next bend and once past , even with a very slippy clutch and only 8/9 psi jon`s car pulled away cleanly from him.
I will be back to oulton next year but i`ll have my car there !!!!

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

What LSD have you got Jon? You seem to have zero wheelspin and there's no tugging at the wheel.

Cool vid btw.

Theres another Mallory Park Track day going on in mid- february, organised by TSR.
They organised the day I did there last month, well organised, plenty of track time and also Mallory is a nice easy circuit, especially if it is your first track outing. Last one was ?94 which I thought was good value.
Also it is near Leicester so nice and central.

Glad you both enjoyed the day, Almost wish I'd taken my blue beastie too.

There will be lots more coming up next year and I'll keep everyone posted as I get the dates.

Oulton Park does suit minis quite well, as does Anglesey. The main thing that I like with the trackday companies that I use is the open pitlane. You really do get much more track time than you need.

I'm sure we can have a gaggle of minis out next year.

Dave.

how did it get on?

it went on very well, mainly due to the fact that he's decided to just use it on tracks, so I don't have to worry about it passing an MOT. Mikes rollers are reading strange at the moment but using percentage of increse compared to its previous results it's doing around 85bhp @ wheels and flying along quite nicely.
