Minispares has me confused... Are these things 7/16 or 7/8?
Anyone got one to hand or on a car they can guestimate for me?

I recon 1/2, so I tend to agree with Carl.

I have one some where, I'll have a look tomorrow, but some one will probably answer before

Also, minispare lie, as they are NOT fitted as standard. Two of the 4mm steel washers are.

Possibly neither....

I have a very old one, it is part number 12G2452 and is 16.8mm thick.

The best I can find against that part number is this

http://www.minispeed.co.uk/classic/index.c...9086&id=12g2452

...which says it is for a Clubman but I'm sure I got it with an Austin 1300 engine I used years ago (the Basil Fawlty type one), not a Clubman.

However, mine looks like the one in the MiniSpares picture, NOT like the MiniSpeed picture, ie, it has the raised spigot on the front, not a large hole all the way through.

MiniSpares don't quote the 12G2452 so maybe theirs is different.

I was going to say that there are at least two types out there:

The steel ones which where are about 4mm thick and there are two of them fitted as standard to most non-mpi A+ minis.

The alloy ones which are about 15mm thick, I've never come across an alloy one as standard, but they are required to clear the timing chain breather if you are fitting a Metro engine into a mini.

There may also be others that I don't know about. Does that help?

Those are the standard 4mm steel ones as fitted to all 1275 A+ mini engines 1991>

Then they are either quoting the wrong part number or have used the wrong photo....

In fact, wrong photo

http://www.minispeed.co.uk/classic/index.c...oduct&id=12a312

As that's their 4mm one *happy*

Mines definately like the one in the MiniSpares picture, alloy, and 16.8mm thick *oh well*

The point of interest was they describe it as clubman under the 12G2452 part number and I'm sure mine wasn't from a clubman.

I use one on the 998.

Difficult to measure when fitted, but I would say less than 1/2".

Those metal 4mm spacers I use in the 16v kits when using the MPi pullies. one of those behind the waterpump pulley and one infront of it, moves the pulley out 4mm but keeps the fan exactly where the factory put it *happy*

The spacer I have does not look like the ally Minispares one, its a wierd shape

Oh and its 12mm

And for sale if anyone wants it

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

that looks like a drive flange off an old pump! *happy* just a thought!

I made one a while ago, needed to be about 10mm i think.

But i've also had some of those thinner steel ones.

I have no idea what that is off Sprox - never seen one like that!
So, if I have this right:

The alloy spacer like shown in the minispares picture here:
http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=33016
was used on the clubby's. There might be two versions of this - one as Rod measured at 16mm, and a thinner one 1/2" or so (which is what I was thinking)...

The thinner steel type (circa 4mm thick) was used on 1275 A+ minis; two of between the pulley and fan.

The clubby ones are thicker than 3/8". I'll try to find one and measure.

There are three 'standard' sizes of spacer - the 4mm steel one, the 12(ish)mm alloy one and then a 16(ish)mm thicker alloy one

The thickest alloy one was uysed on the clubman models and I believe is now NLA or NOS only. it may also have been used by Austin?Morris/BL on other cars but in terms of Minis it was only used on the Clubman fronted models.

The thinner alloy one was used on cars with the breather on the timing cover, from memory it has a PGX... part number which to me says it was introduced quite a bit later in production.

That's interesting - so someone might have realised that two thin steel spacers was a bodge, and designed something to do it properly?

I recall pulling a carb'd cooper apart - that had two steel spacers - I assumed it was an owners bodge, not factory...
