In the garage......again!!

Noticed at combe that the pipework and intercooler are getting seriously hot after a thrashing, got a bit of detonation due to charge temps being high. What i want to know is will wrapping the pipework in heatwrap help keep temps down or does it have other effects?.

Are you allowed to water spray or a cryo spray over the 'cooler on the track? Am thinking no for the water, but a cryo spray may help...?

You need to work out if its heat soak or inefficient IC causing the excessive heat.

Thanks for the replies, i think its a bit of a mixture of the two, crap rs intercooler and heat soak into the pipes. The pipes get so hot you cant touch them.I just thought for a temporary fix until i take it off the road over winter, to wrap them up.

The RS IC is generally considered ok for decent power.

Where is it situated, does it have a decent cold air feed?

The Ic on the TT is hot on one side and cold on the other, just as it should be

My intercooler is hot after it has been sitting for 15 minutes after a hard run. Heat soak is the problem.

It's cold when running at a reasonable speed.

Perhaps this is why some vehicles have fans on their intercoolers for instances such as sitting in traffic.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Do you know yours inlet temperature when you drive??
Of course it goes hot when you stop the engine running, then all heat release and if you have aluminium cooler it is hot really soon after the stop.

The RS unit is very good As Will says. Show us a picture of both sides and let's see if that makes things any more obvious...

Yes. That location is pants. The air needs to FLOW THROUGH an intercooler for it to be effective. Little to nothing will flow through that. Very little air flows over the top of the engine as there is nowhere for it to escape (a fundamental requirement of 'flow').

Now, if you were to run without a bonnet, this would be a LOT better.
