Just a quick warning went to log into my online banking today and thought it was strange that they were asking me for my full security code(dont normally ask for that). rang them up and they confirmed that a virus had infected my computer. amazing thing is that it wasnt a link, i went through the HSBC website as per usual.

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Check your hosts file. It looks like you've been redirected to a bogus site. Have you been looking at naughty stuff??

Start - run

notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Should be obvious if anything has been added. There's usually a load of stuff commented out with a # then this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

EDIT: Remove your internet banking ID from that pic *wink*

Very clever.

Just tried my HSBC and, although I didn't get the phishing bit, your URL looks virtually identical to the correct one (ie, looks just like mine) except it's missing the Verisign logo at the beginning.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

After changing windows explorer back to version 7 it seems to have corrected the issue, but my IT guy at work was stumped.

IE 8 is rubbish and buggy like hell. i found websites didn't load and had all sorts of troubles from it. Probably did not help to your virus issues either.

at the moment i use chrome a lot but thats mainly at work as not many people know what chrome looks like in your task bar :)

only problem is some addons like flash and shockwave player can be bit iffy but only found that on imageshack for some reason.

otherwise firefox rules!

At least its not like tvr. You say its got a handling issue? Youll have to work around that one then. Try not to make a mess when you catch dead.

i had chrome but hated the fact that there isnt a drop down menu for the address bar. last thing i want to have to do when im in a lazy mood is to have to type the web address in.

DO NOT use internet explorer whatever you do!! Firefox is the best browser that you can get on a windows PC in my opinion!! orrrrrr you could buy a mac and use the best browser ever made?!?! *tongue*

I went to a malware seminar today. I've seen a fair bit of stuff in 20 odd years in IT but this really opened my eyes. SQL injection, polymorphic malware, executing scripts in pdfs, and the majority of malware gets onto your machine from legitmate sites, including the av vendors all with the intent of stealing data in the same way viruses used to. Macs are not safe either now.

Latest version of firefox with anti-script plugins is as good as it gets at the moment. *oh well*

Any particular anti-script plugins that you would recommend Neil?

I can't recommend one as I use firefox but didn't think about the anti-script plug until it was mentioned today. I need to go searching myself. I think he called it noscript or along those lines. Apparently not everyone likes it as you have to keep making decisions as to what runs and what doesn't during browsing.

I had the same thing with barclays a few months back. I'd never been asked for the 5 digit pin number before and thought it was a bit odd!

Two essential add-ons for Firefox: Adblock Plus and NoScript.

Pretty much makes bullet proof browsing.
