sorry for a hijack, but while on tyres, does anyone have any knowlege of while on tires,DUNLOP D93J's 165/70R10. Seems to be the only 10" 165 tyre I can get hold of here in SA.

Ive never used them myself, But ive heard from everyone that uses them theyre between the A032 and the A008. Towards the A032 though. The grip is less but i think they last a bit longer.

They definitely last longer than A032Rs, but they are an inferior tyre when it comes to grip, no doubt. They're an old crossply, so if racing you'll need to do something with the suspension settings..

Rosepetals and these on your sprint eehh?? Go for it!

Mark Forster had a set on his sprint, they were horrendous. Het took them off and stuck A008s on.

They seem to need temperature to work, so good on a track, but not on the road. His were quite old though (although not used), so maybe they had gon hard.

Then again A008s on a Rosepetal would be shite, as the tyres are just too wide..
Why not fit some decent 145 tyres? Makes Miniing fun *wink*

Must admit V, I have 145 Falkens on it now with std steels and it handles superb - in the fun way although could do with a touch of negative camber on the back, it has about 1/2 degree pos at the moment.

I seriously doubt it!

I must admit I always prefer the way the cars feel on 145's for general road driving. Although 165's obviously handle better.

I also used to enjoy it when I had 165's on the back on 145's on the front of my jet black it made the handling interesting to say the least.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Semanthics I know, but doesn't the Mini handle better on 145s? Obviously, there's more grip on 165s but handling and grip is two different things. Mini's don't really handle well.

Fair point V.

I agree that the mini handles better on 145's but grips better on 165's *smiley*

Now what about the difference between 10's, 12's & 13's???

Just a question Paul. I would never suggest putting 12/13's on a pukka MK1. *smiley*

I have had experience of 165 10's, 145 12's, 165 12's and Sportspack 13's.

I found the 13's had loads of grip but the handling was garbage.

The 165 10's were probably the best grip/handling compromise.

The 145 12's gave a nice ride and pleasant handling however grip was a bit poor.

The 165 12's gave good grip and reasonable handling and are my current tyre of choice however I may go for 165 10's later.

I would like to try 145 10's but haven't had the opportunity.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Ive had 145 10s on my mk1. Was pretty skittish but could chuck it into any corner.
The tyres were at least 20 years old and one would be closer to 35.
Definitely a change to keep me happy.

I'm running the 4.5x10 minispares minilife alloys with 165 A008 and its not bad but it looses more front end grip when chucking into a roundabout. It had slightly more grip when running the 165 A008 on GB 6x10 but I wanted the no arch look and they were catching on the arches when the F-Brakes were installed.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Going from 4,5" to 6" on a 165 tyre makes a MASSIVE difference. I don't really like 4,5" wheels and 165 tyres.
