Right I require some advice about the above please.

I would like to move the steering closer than standard. So I require a boss of some sort. Plus I would like to make the wheel removable. Due to a, security and b, help with access.

So where’s best to shop for said items?

Also are they spline specific for wheel and boss.

And with a boss fitted does it still retain the original indictor canceller part?

I use a Snapoff boss mounted to a machined down Mountney classic boss. This makes the complete boss about the same hight as a standard boss. I then use a deep dish steering wheel to shorten the reach.

Works a treat and looks like a standard fit steering wheel and boss.

Forgot to mention that I needed to make an adapter to fix the Snap Off boss to the machined down mountney classic boss

Mine's from eBay. Like this...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/D1Spec-SnapOff-Type-...id=p3286.c0.m14

I don't remember paying over £50 for it though.

It just fits beween the boss and wheel. Easy peasy. The only problem I had was that it moved the steering wheel about and inch closer. From the sound of things this will be of benefit for you.

EDIT: Here's a pic...

So basically I need to get a boss and then you can fit whatever you like to it.?

I think I'll get a boss and then I can work out what reach I require.

Thanks for the input guys.

You are screwed if you have a Mountney classic steering wheel as none of the snap off bosses will fit. It needs to be the smaller 'sport' type boss that Sparco, Momo and the like use.

I use a hub from Minispares, and a removeable thingy from OMP. Works great, but you'll need to move the seat behind the cross member

I'm not into the ball lock system myself. (reminds me of the tractor hydraulics connector). I tried a couple of these and they both had a few mm of slop in them, which got progressively worse over time when the balls wore the interface holes out. I hope others have better luck than I did.

The thing to look out for is the slop in the splines. The splines in the Formula student car i work on is shocking. About 5-10 degrees of play is terrible.
