I will be turboing my 318i eventually and so I have started collecting parts. I really don't want to make an exhaust manifold and I think I may have found a solution.

The M20 (6 cylinder) engines seem to have the same bolt pattern as the M40 (4 cylinder). Assuming that they do, would it be possible to hack 2 branches off this crappy ebay manifold and use it for the M40?

The reason that I ask is because the branches meet in a 2-1 collector so by cutting 2 branches off one side of the manifold will feed from 3 cylinders and one will feed from 1

What do you think? Should I stop being a pikey and build a manifold?

That looks like a four branch manifold that's had two extra runners added, have you tried contacting the seller to see if the do one for the M40?

Rob, I haven't contacted the seller yet. The M40 was never available in the USA and so there is very little aftermarket kit available for it. There is no harm in asking him though, so I will send him a mail.

Mike, that's what I was thinking. It's so cheap that it's probably worth taking a chance on

Both in terms of cost and quality, I would imagine. It's worth taking a chance on at that price though

I just realised that I was being spastic. I can obviouls cut a branch off each end to keep each side of the collector supplying from 2 cylinders. I will make sure the supplier doesn't do a 4 cylinder one first though
