washed mini and done the weekly checks to find a rocker full of mayo and the water and oil needed about half litre each

i though head gasket but ive done searches and it could me the 10 min jurneys twice a day i doo in it. Ive had it a year and not had this before whats your thoughts?
Do you think an oil n filter change could cure it? Is it worth ripping the head off with the rr and rwyb weekend looming ?

Cheers

Run an oil flush through it and then change oil and filter. It is most likely due to short journeys and you can check for definate if you start with a clean system and keep an eye on oil and water

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

half a litre of missing water id expect on an open system, if your running a closed system ie metro/ mpi expansion tank id be concerned. the oil probobly went out your exhaust on all the cold starts and driving, so prob nothing to worry about

As you suspected, most likely the oil's not getting up to temperature enough to drive off the water vapour from combustion.

I can't stick the stuff as the emulsions that enter the oil can't do much good for bores and bearings.

It's worth making sure the top end breaths as much as possible either into a catch tank or by having a couple of small K&N filters off the rocker cover and transmission casing.

Could try upping the thermostat to an 82 or an 88 and giving it an oil & filter change accompanied by a couple of 20-30 mile journeys to get it really warm.

See you at the RR.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

i also have mayo in my rocker, this is something i have not had before. I changed the oil as the oil on the dipstick was a light green. i changed the oil and there was a green film ontop. now i have mayo on the rocker cap. just to be sure this will not be the head gasket? i did use duckhams but have changed it to comma

I used to get this very badly in a HC Viva. I made a sort of tea cosy to go over the rocker box and that cured it completely.

duckhams is a high detergent oil

h4887 in answer to your question if your engines runnning right! it will be the residues from the duckhams left in

it will clear in a few oil changes

abit of thread excavation,
since the rwyb weekend the mini developed a nice missfire at part throttle and an unhealthy drinking habit, then later would fire up on 2 cylinders with the other 2 coming online about 20 seconds after, this was the inner 2 cylinder wetting the plugs
today i pulled the head, it had blown between 2+3 into the water jacket, this is the 2nd time this has happend now, the head will be skimmed and refitted with a bk450 this time, i have a couple of questions though how likely is it that this blowing has burnt away some of the block ( enough to make it unflat and effect the gasket seating) and the second is in regard to a picture i dont have on me so ill aske in the morning,

cheers
