right, engine is coming out this eve to start the conversion and i'm thinking of going flip front. i do love that look. But i have a few questions..

My local friendly coachworks say they could cut the original front off and re-use it as the flip front (as i would like steel) they have a plasma cutter and can get nice tidy accurate cuts etc. The existing front is in vert good contition with no rust etc so does this sound like a good idea, i could do without having to buy all new front panels tbh!

Next question.. hinges. Where do i get them from? I'd like removable hinge pins so it can be fully removed too.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i had simple hinges on mine that you then slide to one side to get the front end completely off. ie. it was just a tube and bit of barr design. a tip though, make one a fair bit longer than the other to make putting it on easy. when they're both the same length and you have to align them both at once it can be a pain!!!

Think im flip fronting but in steel soon, may go with C/F

I did a similar tyhing to Iain with the hinges.

But with the new intercooler fitted, opening on hinges was impossible so now it just comes off.

Also, it was a pain in the arse, if you want a flip front then I would advise having one with an opening bonnet.

y i was thinking about using the slide-off bonnet hinges, so to flip it u prop up the bonnet first or remove it.

cant remember where i found the link, but i saw on a site the other day someone had it flip the other way, and open like a new mini bonnet. he had a regular internal release for it, and it was held up by hydraulic rams, looked the business. not sure how the hinges worked on it though, as they were fitted under the slam panel somewhere
