bini lost keys...and one work for Bmw???**update**

A women at my mrs's work has lost or had her keys stolen,more likey lost,
she's a bit hapless and dont have insurance to cover the lost keys,
what does she have to do to get knew ones and how much do they cost?
its a 57 cooper s...

how can they do it without having the car?

will probably mean reprogramming the imobiliser to match the new keys

agreed; main dealer can supply keys with log book but will need re-programmed to recognise the new keys

note to self - get spare keys for mine!!

you can get the keys first which will at least let you get in it and tow but yes it will have to go to a dealer or alternatively to one of the specialists who has the correct gear to re-program the ecu

A mate of mine lost his (only) key to his VW Van. Ended up having to scrap it because it was going to cost too much to fix...all because he lost his key.

Just get it recovered to a bini dealer. I'm sure there are lots of recover firms that can lift a car onto a low loader.

the other problem being ,its in a secure carpark and its facing the wall with a wall on the left,
and its to low to get a low loader in there.

best way would probably be call mini emergancy service (number on back of tax disc holder). they will be able to uplift it into the dealer who will then be able to sort out replacement keys and code them to the vehicle. breakdown is also included for the first three years when you buy a mini so the recovery wont (shouldnt!) cost her anything either.

edit: just noticed its in an underground car park! they should still be able to get it out if you explain to them the situation first (they have very good ways of gaining access into the cars! )

aren't they supplied with 3 keys these days? surely she can't have lost the other 2 within 2 years!

i think she lost her other one a while back, anywho, i just spoke to her and she now has no idea where the v5c is,*thinks* it could be at her parents in cornwall,
i have a headache now,
its not like she use's it ,its only got 5k on the clock....

Just tell her what ian said and leave her to it, stop making your life difficult for her own stupidity

she will need the V5 though once the car gets to the dealer (plus other id like driving licence of which copies will be kept for a period of time) as the dealers have to be very careful now on replacement keys etc due to a massive rise in people trying to obtain keys for cars that aren't theirs so they can then steal them order.
