ok so i going along the m25 at about 70 and all of a sudden car starts backfiring and juddering whenever i put my foot down it was just in 4th but then in every gear, cant go above 30 now so pull over shitter, problem is in neutral the car revs ok bit of smoke and some liquid (fuel vapour?). me thinks its the coil as i did have a similar problem when it went to minispeed, fuel regulator is new and there are no leaks, any ideas?, is there a 'good' coil to buy fed up of buying new ones, any info would be great thanks

also quick question, the t piece that comes out the turbo that has a feed to the actuator on one side and a bit of pipe going nowhere on the other side should this be blocked up?

dashpot oil?

Yea block it off or put a bleed valve on it.

Another thing, the metro dissy has the electric moduel on it, this only runs at 12v. If you have a ballast resister (pink live to the coil) this can cause missfiring probs and burnt out modules

cheers guys, i thought the bleed valve went between one side of the t piece and the actuator leaving the other side of the t to have the blocked up bit of pipe.

put a bleed valve anywhere u like (within reason) lol.

The other end of the t piece is where the origional solinoid bled air from, i personally run a bleed valve inbetween turbo +actuator as you said

Go for something like a lucas one so you can hope for a good quality one *smiley*

end of the day as long as it does the job then there isnt really a lot of point forking out a lot of money for a flash one *smiley*

thats true iain
but higher boost figures puts big demands on the whole coil scene
may be not in gavs case though ?

yeah but surely if you are having problems with a strong enough spark using higher boost then really you need to be looking into different plugs not different coils?

Thats true Tom, the plug grade may be under doubt ? or just may be they have just give up, worn out ?
this needs to be looked into also.

I have been a motorcycle mechanic for well over 20 years and I think I know a fair bit but am puzled by what extra demand on a coil more boost will cause?

cheers for the input guys, i will try a new coil asap and see if it works, someone also suggested it could be the alternator, the plugs and leads are all brand new i'll just have to see i guess, thanks again for the advice

Allan,
Well if you run a normally aspirated engine no problem there, if the entire stock ignition department is new or nearly new the system should run fine, say motorcycles as there aren?t too may blown ones.
What forced induction does basically as you will probably know is raise the cylinder pressure thus the spark has a harder time jumping the gap (it dies under pressure)
We are talking boost say 16 to 20 psi and more, the coil has to draw slightly more current up to its limit say 3.2amps nominal ignition until it can draw no more then intermittent spark misfire ! Occurs, especially if the stock ignition components are worn.
Hence a better approach to upgrade the ignition system would make sound judgment.

I have been a design Engineer for 30 years this coming February
Hope this puts you in the ballpark Allan.

Watch out running uprated coils on the stock ignition module... I know of one 'well known' fella who uses nitrous on his mini has reverted back to using STOCK coils on his mini (the s in coils should give you a hint).
In good condition, the stock outfit is hard to beat for ANY tune of A-Series engine... Problems arise when modules/coils are faulty, or (more commonly) a lucas 'gold' coil has been used on the stock module in an effort to make another zillion horsepower, when all it does is cook the module, leading to an ignition breakdown under load.
If fitting a new module, clean the dizzy body with steel wool, and apply the heat-conductive jelly, then fit the module.

T Dave thats true also buddy, most of the problems arise when ignition components are clapped out compounding things.
