I would say the standard turbo cam or maybe an MG metro cam.

If it's standard netro turbo, then you will get no more low down torque by changing the cam. all upgrades will produce more power, this is generally to the detrimemt of boost threshold (but not always).

For lower down torque, you need a better turbo (i.e. more modern, and better sized for your needs). Mapped ignition will also help.

I wonder if an SW5 would produce the goods in a low-ish boost high cr engine?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

I'll be running one in my 1098. I'm running a 9.2:1 CR like Dan too. It will probably never be finished though

What exactlt is the problem?

A standard metro turbo setup should be fine to drive. Unfortunatelly it is the nature of turbo engines (especially with big old chargers on) that you do miss a certain amount of low end power. But the Metro never really suffered this to a massive extent.

It may be that your car needs a bit of setting up. Some added preload on the actuator may help, as may fitting an MCB. Even though you don't want more boost I found that an MCB helped get the boost up a fraction quicker.

SW5, and a proper turbocharger.

The old T3 is crap.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Has anyone actually tried this 266 cam for turbo use? Because I keep seeing it mentioned, but no one seems to have tried it, and TBH looking at the numbers I'm not convinced at all.

I have a 266 with the GT1548, 8.5CR

Whats turbo lag then? never seen it.. power is fine, 130 (flywheel) nanas, 115 curliewhirlies at 10psi and full torque at just over 3000rpm

Its a fine road cam. heres the dyno
