my red top pump died the other day, when powered up it does nothing. it is definitly the pump as ive connected up a spare one i had and it worked straight away.

ive stripped it down as much as i can and all seems ok, but i cant seem to get in to the top part where the main workings are, so im assuming there sealed? in which case is it scrap?

has any one else had this problem with them?

Not used a red top but I did have a silver top go tits once namely because I had mounted it incorrectly and it overheated.

To keep the internal pump workings lubricated, and hence prevent premature failure, it was necessary to mount the pump vertical, long ways up so the inlet and outlet are horizontal. And also to ensure the pump was correctly resonantly mounted on rubber cotton reels.

I don't think I stripped my knackered pump down as both ends were sealed / crimped and the amount of agro trying to repair it was dissproportionate to the cost of a new one.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

dont these work using mechanical points (hence why they were superceded by the square"solid state" facet pumps?) if thats teh case, chances are they ahve burnt out or stuck. if stuck a hammer will sort it, if burnt then its scrap.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
