Well what can i say, what a great experience. Scott kindly offered me a drive in his racing Kart, so i went along to the track to see what it was all about.
With Over 410 bhp Per ton to play with i don't know why i was so surprise at how fast it was. When the revs were high enough the power valve opened, the engine note changed and revs shot up, it really goes a move on, and with the back end squirming around all over the place to lay the power down it needed every amount of concentration i had. This thing is so responsive, only a small input on the steering wheel would result in a lot of movement. It reminded me of fighting the mini on full power, the way it darts around all over the place. If you braked to hard the back end would want to over take you in a flash and you would be facing the opposite way in moments if you weren't careful, Added to this that if you put to much power down on a bend you would do the same! I really don't think that people really know what these karts are like, There are NOTHING like the twin engined things you have at the local go-kart tracks. I can see why Scott sold his fast RX7 as getting back into it after a day out in the Kart would feel possibly slow but it makes your car fell sloppy and un safe as the karts are so tight. The other thing to show you just how brutal these things are is in the morning my hips were all bruised along and my rubs are very sore due to being thrown around so much in the seat, my arms ach a little as well, i can't imagine what Scott's like after a long race with 20 other Karts on the grid!
I was pleased with his comments on my driving, I'd never been out in any thing like this before. After lot of help from Scott and a few more laps he said the times i was getting (no where near his times BTW!) were good enough to have passed the test that's needed when you go for your Karting licence!

you should have a go in one of the big ones, in fact i'm not sure they race them any more... but 250cc 6 gears and downforce *surprised*

can hit upwards of 150 on long circuits apparently.

I had a quick go of one just in a straight line, scared the bejesus out of me, didnt get past third

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

looks like fun.

Unfortunatly I'm too tall for karting. I end up getting all the skin rubbed of my arse bone....

To be quite honest...I think they are a whole lot more expensive than club racing. Well in the 5 figure numbers.
Carting & single seaters will always be more expensive than tin tops, but then there are talented people who drive them.

I used to have one i did a few practice days in. It was only 100cc on absolutely shagged tyres, but felt the fastest ive ever gone.

And its definitely not cheap.

Love um, Very addictive. Many moons ago I had part share in 100cc national kart.
Great for sharpening you driving skills and bloody good fun to. But you do get a good beating to. Try doing an endurance event..

A mate bought one of those 250 cc kart years ago. And never got the thing into 6th gear. He didn’t dare let go off the wheel to change up. Proper shit your pants fast.

Great Pics to

Matt good stuff!! I took part in a club 100 race years ago and it absolutely destroyed me doing 20mins racing in one of these things - I can fully relate to how you feel, hehe The only other thing which got close was when we had a Polini - proper Italian mini moto - not chinese weak as p**s, it was a 10hp 50cc model with twin front discs single rear (racing compound slicks indoors)- not so much the speed on these things though 70mph indoors and 100mph outdoors was fast it was the braking force which pumped your forearms up and turned them to jelly after 20mins!

so who has one of these 250cc, 160mph, 6 spd karts we can have a go in pls!!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

This is super you all seem to know what i'm on about. but yes really hard to explain. I have to run the mini today on full power to make it feel fast, cos of this dame Kart lol. Even them i went to turn in and realised i was in the poo handling of the mini and nearly not made the turn! but there was a scooby behind to had to make a good show of it. lol. yes these 6 speed one are even more word would fale me even more with them :) I just spoke to my mate about it, and he said he was really suprised at how well i did for a short time in the thing lol. I think the mini darting all over the place has tought me some thing after all!

what engines do these things use? are they motorcycle derived or something all their own? the only thing i can compare it to is owning a 2005 honda cr250 mx bike and sold it after about 6 months the thing was an animal!
