Hi all, as some of you may have read, my car failed its MOT today on a few things, one being a worn wheel bearing.

The only special tool you need to do the ball joint is a 1 1/2" socket. You can get these for a few quid. Always worth having in your toolbox. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

if you know it needs doing then why not do it. From experience, do it as soon as you know it needs doing.

I believe he can fail it on other problems that didn't appear the first time. Most just advise you.

The retest specifcally only looks at the things it failed on. Had to do two of these rescently. It says so on the fail sheet I think....

If your going to give him the job anyhow point it out to him and ask if he can do it pre retest just to get him onside, also shows him your not willing to try and pull the wool over his eyes.

I have a good relationship with the garage that tests all my cars based on this principle. I find that's the most important thing at MOT time. My local tester is quite forgiving and will often advise me on what he wants to see for a retest to answer questions up front On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Well I swapped the ball joint today, it was a shit load easier then I thought it was going to be which was good. The ball seat didn't want to come out so they had some heat to fetch those out, bastards.
