ARP say to torque there head studs to 40 ft lb, but is this the same on turbo application? I know the ARP studs are designed not to stretch but 40ft lb dosent seam very much. Maybe just me tho????

It's 40lbs with ARP lube I guess. If it says so, do so!
Why would you want more on a turbo engine?

Lol yeah to keep the pixies in ha ha. I just thought with the added pressure a turbo puts on a head gasket, that people on here may have experimented in torquing them to a higher pressure....

So when there is a higher pressure in the combustion chamber, the head gasket works better when it's squished?
Sorry, I don't get the theory behind this.

Ok, so deforming the gasket will reduce the chances for blowing? Sorry, I still don't get it.

Im only talking bowt a few extra ft lb not a few hundred. They state 40 and i was thinking bowt 50. Nothing gasket deforming.

So what's the point then?

What does "bowt" mean?

Personally I think that ARP know more about clamping down a gasket than I do. So I pay the money for their nice hardware and then follow the instructions.

Clamping force is all about stretching the stud. How much force is needed depends on the studs (dimensions and material) if you much force and you go beyond the stud elastic limit deforming the stud and reducing the clamping force.

Yeah very true. ARP are the experts but i just wonderd if anyone torqued more than stated. Sometimes people find better ways of doing things than what the instructions say.
