ive had exactly this situation, in the recent past. it is highly irregular and should involve marching into the shop and trowing rod/piston assembly at said salesperson. (simon in my case) |

You should expect to grind rings to fit in the bore.. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

Is it usual to have say, rings for another brand of manufacturer say Mazda supplied as the rings for the pistons. For a modern metric size piston, yes - the 73mm Hypatecs I bought were supplied with 73mm Hastings rings. No doubt I could have bought another make of rings instead because the diameters and thickesses are "standard" metric. For the weird imperial bore sizes and variety of ring thicknesses of a normally bored/re-bored A series, I would have thought less likely, but if the rings came in a box clearly marked as the correct diameter and thicknesses, it wouldn't bother me. Have you ever had to do this: After fitting your new pistons to your bored block you find them bar tight the supplier tells you that you have to cut them to fit! No, because I allways put every single ring in the bore and measure their gaps (and adjust if necissary) before fitting them to the pistons. However, I would alway expect there to be a gap, maybe needing increasing slightly with a needle file, but not so bad as to need "cutting". Modern production tolerances are much better than they used to be, the Hastings ones were all spot on for the end gaps they recommended. Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Your last comment says it all. Some one somewhere else made the connection with company names. Anything ending in 'speed' should be avoided Edited by Sprocket on 14th Oct, 2009. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:
