just moted my mini and the new brake tester we have actually weighs the car as well.

its a clubby shell with fibreglass front, starlet turbo engine, homemade subframe full road trim.

so my mini weighed 815kgs
tools and water etc -13kgs
spare wheel - 6kgs
me -100kgs

so is this heavy compared to others?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

It is heavy, but if its got the comfy interior etc then not too bad

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

696kg is quite heavy. I think mine was 630kg at the last test and I aven't got any light parts on it other than a rusted subframe and a cf front. What meterial is the starlet head and block?

its not really comfy lol i took all the sound proofing out. just need a mini with 3 seats.

my home made subby weighs about double a standard one weighs.

cylinder head is ally, the block is proper metal lol. cant find the combined weigh of engine and box anywhere.

dont know how acurate the machine is i assume its gotta be about right tho, it measures front axle then the rear.

did you input the wheel base at all?

if you simply added the ront weight plus the back weight, it wont be the total weight :)

well it will be if it's level, but not if it drops into the rollers.

under 700 is ok for a road car, but that's with sound profing etc.

its not a udl wil

infact, as most of the engine weight is on or even forward of the front wheels, it might even tend to reduce the moment over the rear wheels

if the car is weighted an axle at a time on a level surface its true weight will be known. simples. doesnt matter where the engine is. *smiley* even if the car dips into a brake roller, i'd put moeny on the error being neglegable.

actually, ill eat my own words here, total force down, in equilibrium, equals the sum of total force up

so add the 2 weights together and yes, it will equal (near as dammit) the total force down

apologies for wasting everyones time, wil, i beg your pardon

the upshot....carl, get it on a diet pronto lol

Ive heard the starlet motor and gearbox weighs about 20 kilos less than a 1275, but nothing more quantitative than that.

I was thinking it measured an axle at a time. So if you measured the front axle then the rear, with each end dipped down as you measured it, then it would read heavy. If it measures both axles at the same time, then it wil be as acurate as the scales.
