I've seen lots of people who have 'swaged' holes in their car.

Like Timiminichelsea for example:

I've been thinking about doing that kind of thing to my mini, but I can't find a tool to do it

What's it called and where can I get them from?

done a search, but no luck

Much easier when you know what to search for - hole flare tool

Cheers Joe, shame they're so expensive!

EDIT: for anybody else looking, this chap has a few:

I brought a 20mm hole flaring tool off ebay. Cost £18. The bloke who sold it did a load of different sized ones. I've so far used it on the turbo bonnet and the vauxhall minis A panels. Looks sweet. *happy*

I've got one off ebay, it's ok but I've ended up replacing the bolt with a 12.9 cap head as I stripped the threads off the bolt that came with it, I also use an inch long nut to try and stop me stripping the threads and also allows me to clamp it in the vice, also as it's ally it's starting to wear.

a bearing under the nut goes a long way to making the treads last on bunches and swages

dam, im glad i made one of these up when i had the chance. mine does 35-40mm , twas easy to make from steel bar stock, but geting the profile right on the radius took a bit of trial n error.
i recon one could be made up from steel plate.

If and when I get round to doing it, are there any areas to avoid?

Obvious structural areas are out, but I was thinking areas like the parcel shelf, front half of the rear seat base, head linging support bits, top dash rail, door frames etc etc

Seeing as theres a big pic of my car at the top.

I got mine from a combination of Ebay, Frost and the aforementioned motorsport tools

Frost's 1" flare is beautifully made.

I only have a 1" and a 1 1/2" swage but its managed to do the majority of the holes on the car with it.

I have bought loads of hole punches, you can buy them as a combined punch/swage which looks nice but they are really pricey over £100 each. I prefer to buy them separately as if i strip a thread in one (not happened yet) it wont be too costly to replace.

Finally got round to buying a set of these from the ebay chap. All look really good quality and they came in a nice box.

Just need some descent hole cutters now...
