While trying to get to sleep the other night I wondered if it would be possible to reverse the firing order, reverse the polarity on the alternator, then.... roll your mini backwards down a hill, but in 1st gear and try to bump start it? Is it possible to run the A series backwards?

Or should I go and see my doc about some sleeping tablets....

Yes, Im getting there.....

You can do it with a diesel cement mixer. Although the rev limiter won't work.

Yes, the engine did explode.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

My mate was once trying to bump-start his mini rolling down a hill, he was just being lazy as it had stalled as he was reversing out on to the road.

Anyway, he accidentally left it in reverse while rolling forwards trying to bump-start it. Amazingly it did actually start, but every time he tried to rev it it stopped.

So it's kind of possible, just no use wasting sleep thinking about it.

When you run a Mini with too high compression, it will run on after the ignition has been cut. It then runs backwards...

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

this is mind boggling... because wouldnt the fuel also pump the wrong way on a mechanical engine, and the exhaust suck in and blow out the air filter?!?! god knows cant think about it it hurts!

Messerschmitt KR bubblecars had four reverse gears.

It has a two stroke engine and a twin set of points. You just started it in the opposite direction.

The fuel pump on a mini wouldnt matter because it works off a lobe on the cam to create a linear motion not a rotary one....

I think you would suck in through the exhaust though.... the valve would open for the exhaust stroke as the piston would be moving down.... hmmm
Vice versa for the inlet

scary....

The oil pressure wouldn't be
up to much though *oh well*
