Okay, weirdo question for all of you, but how old is everyone on the forum? Reason I'm asking is I'm fooking tired of having a car that constantly needs work, and I don't mean like messing with the turbo, I mean like having to do piddly shit because some ass who owned the car before you was an idiot and didn't do anything messing, and I'm wondering if this is just something people my age have to deal with, or if I'm just that one unlucky bastard. To start off, I'm 22.

Cheers all

James

I service my car myself, due to the maindealer chraging £400 for an oil change and the fatc I do 20k+ a year. Wifeys car goes into Honda (and she pays *smiley* ). Then there's the minis and metro van for fun. I find fixing other peoples mess is all part of the fun...

I am 35 and I don't think that this changes. What does change (or did for me) is that I now earn enough money that my transport cars are looked after by garages and only my 'hobby' cars I really work on. This means that all the crap is usually down to me.

OK.
I,m still messing about with a turbo A series, and enjoying it.I also ride bikes in the dirt, and on race tracks.I dont feel any different than I did when I started out on cars and bikes, but I now qualify for the flu jab and the state pension.
Does this really matter ?

I can understand that the 20-40 year olds wont want a wrinkly on their social occasions (might drag the atmosphere down ?) but otherwise who gives shit about the age thing.

I am happy to confirm that I am still learning from people on this forum half my age - or less.

27 and my daily is looked after by garages. I just like to tinker with the mini when I can.

I'm 30 and pig sick of working on cars! We have 2 daily drives (mine and missus') and 2 Mini's and I do the maintenance on all of them generally. I'm fed up of the constant work, but its better than forking out for garage bills.

Im 25.I have a company car that is looked after by the main dealer and paid for by work.My wifes car is looked after by a local garage (apart from servicing etc which i do myself) so its just the mini that i work on properly.

52 (and a half) and I do it for fun.

And as it's a project, anything that goes wrong is down to me as fixing previous people's bodges is a fundamental part of the project.

The only difference age makes is I now have to wear Mr Magoo style reading glasses when soldering PCBs....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

i'm 28, didn't have a scooby about cars untill i got me first mini at 21 then decided to learn as i went to save on garage bills.

Got fed up with having a daily drive mini and having to fix it every weekend so it's now a weekend toy.

I'm 35, I just accept that having to fiddle and repair is part of the territory. I couldn't have all the cars we have if I didn't do a lot myself. I rarely do anything to the Subaru, but it rarely needs anything.

Interestingly I was adding up how much me and wifey have spent on cars to get the fleet we have (or will have when the 500 arrives)

Legacy £8.5k
500 £13.5k
Hillclimber £??? lets say £8.5k as that's what it's insured for
Green mini £500 +£1k to turbo
Sabre Sprint £750

Now that's £32.75k spent. this may seem like a lot, but consider the new price of the Legacy was £30k it seems like a bloody good fleet to me.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

52 (and a half) and grumpy with it.

This is the second session of Mini tuning in my life. I should have learnt the first time.

23, got my first mini at 16. Unless essential (or it works out cheaper as it has done once) i do all the work on my cars (and family/friends). I have taught everything myself, haven't ever worked on the internals of an engine or gearbox and wouldn't know where to start!

about to sell my mini as i have no time for it anymore, but still enjoy working on cars when i get a chance.

35; never lift a spanner to the daily drivers now although i used to do all my own servicing in the past - let the garage deal with that now so when i do get time in the garage its to enjoy working on the mini

love to tinker with the mini and bikes, boats etc. Useless with new cars, hate to wash, hate to maintain, hate to hassle with service…before all the kids came i always bought scrappers and drove them to destruction and then went out and bought a "new" scrapper, those where the times!

34 and I only ever get roped in to fix everyone elses cars. I have had company vehicles since i was 17 and all get serviced by a garage, usualy poorly. I had a huge falling out with the Seat dealer last year and I have ended up doing all the work on te wifes car since. Got a timing belt, water pump and brakes to do before the winter is in.

The Mini is just a sort of progression after LEGO, not that the LEGO is ignored *wink*

Anything to do with engines and im interested *happy*

33. Feeling every bit as old after going to watch Tiesto in concert last weekend and nearly collapsing at a measly 3am through exhaustion. *blush*

Daily driver is a nice standard Focus - and will do everything except spraying!

38 (I can't be older than Carl for f***ks sake - he must have led a harder life than me lol!)and thankfully the normal cars only need servicing and tyres as we don't do large miles.

42 and only had similar woes with a Mini which the previous owner had done a filler repair on the drivers foot well panel.

Rest of cars have been company cars which you don't really worry about just throw at a garage when something goes wrong and pickup a hire car until it gets repaired. Usually all the Fords broke down! Gave up the company cars because I didn't do the mileage.

Current car I've owned since new and it's a few years old now. Turbo stopped working when the pressure tube fell out of the MAP sensor and I couldn't be bothered plugging it back in again for a couple of years. Nearly threw in a hedge across the road getting used to the turbo again!

But yeh a car you depend on that always needs something fixing can get tiresome.

Im 19 and got my mk1 when i was 14 and fixed it up with my dad. Learnt as i went along and know to fix pretty much everything on it now. Going to redo that one next probably with a 1 litre turbo bimmer twinky. Atm its my daily until i finish my starlet engined road legal hillclimber.
And im building a starlet engined mini in my spare time as well as competing in formula student. So i basically live for cars.
