Evening chaps.

My clubby, 1098cc, has misses when you try and hold it on the throttle, originally it would only do it at around 50mph, but now its seems too do it from about 30-60mph.

Its had new leads, points, condensor, dizzy cap, done the timing, the weights in the bottom of the dizzy are free, exhaust isnt blowing at all.

Im thinking wrong needle in the carb, tryed adjusting the fuel/air ratio numerous times. But it doesnt help.

Anybody body got any ideas?

Cheers, Oli.

air leak at the manifold? old trick was to spray WD40 at the inlets while it was running and see if the revs raised indicating pulling in air?

try new fuel. we MOTEd a car that had old fuel in it and it ran like a POS until we put new in.

it can go of in 3 weeks with a vented tank like the one in a mini

Plug gaps ehh.

I'd replace plugs with a set out of your other mini, followed by the coil if that dont sort it. Sounds ignition related IMO.

What about plug colour before you cleaned and reset ?

Heavy carbon can increase CR and you might be getting detonation from a glowing piece of it in one of the chambers.

Have you cleaned the carb float bowl recently ?

Do you have a blocked fuel filter if fitted ?

Good luck Oli.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Plugs were replaced and re-gapped, also the coil was swapped for another i had lying around. This all made no difference, although im not convinced the plugs are 100% right for the car.

Yup, float bowl, has been cleaned, the carb was swapped, for the one off a 998 i had lying around, no difference.

I dont think a theres a fuel filter.... i'll check tomorrow.

my bets are on the needle, i had a similar problem in my old 998 when i fitted a stage one kit it ran fine all summer then when it started getting cold would develop a misfire on cruise that was cured with a tad of choke, i could get it to run well using the mixture screw but it made it really rich at idle, changed the needle problem solved

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*
