Does everbody have one in thier car? My friend with his coff coff Uno Turbo reckons every turbo should have one but im sure some people have said they dont. If not does something control the boost within the engine ie a computer of some sort?

I believe that you run a pretty low boost whilst driving normally nd turn it up when wanting all the power to keep it relaible.

if you mean bleed valve , most people i know have one in car and most people fiddle with it whilst driving .

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Also a good idea to have one under the bonnet that limits the max you can twiddle in the inside one too *happy*

If you dont have a bleed vavle fitted then its the type of actuator opening/closing the wastegate that controls boost.

even with a bleed valve in car your actuator will open at some point , so by seting your actuator poundage , you get a system in car that has closed valve giving say 8psi and fully open bleed valve giving 20 psi

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Best place for a bleed valve is under the bonnet... (unless you have it rigged up to limit the max boost when fitted inside).

I really can't understand why you'd want to have variable boost up to (say) 10psi. Sure, after this, things do start getting interesting, so boost limiting is ideal. It seems to be forgotten that the throttle disc does a pretty good job of controlling power ultimately...

Bear in mind that a 'clockwork' engine management system like the SU is not technically boost, but velocity sensitive (although does seem to compensate for boost much better than conventional blow-thru carbs like the weber)....
Hence, an engine set up properly for 10psi, will ultimately overfuel if only used at 4psi.

There are times when compromises have to be made, and I bet Miniwilliams can't physically run his engine less than 7psi (or something) becuase his carb is set up for REALLY high boost.

If you want staged boost, you should really have it on solenoid, operated from a switch on the steering wheel or gearlever, so (in a race) you can wind in high boost as needed... Last thing you want is to have a chav'd up nova gradually have the edge on you because you were in low boost and couln't take your hands off the wheel / gearstick to wind in more horsepower!!! If you're on full boost all the time, you can concentrate on driving, rather than the boost gauge or bleed valve.

I remember speaking to some geordie count around June 2002 and decided to fit one - meaning i was launching at 10, rather than 15psi... If I recall, I won the showdown that year???

I won that year with 14.2 or something close,
I came 2nd in 2003, being beaten by 4/100ths with a 13.89 or somet like,
Came 2nd in 2004 being beaten (again) be 4/100ths to giallofly - I got 13.801, Jon got 13.797!
should be gutted, but was too happy for Jon - eventually getting a class win after 7,973,498 years of trying!!!

if your planning on doing any dragging in it DONT put an adjustable one inside you will be tempted to turn it up when trying for a faster time, then you might have to spend all sunday afternoon, at say for instance the mini showdown replacing your head gasket to get home*blush*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
