Not very sunny swanage

yeh, not a bad bet as you usually get a braked chassis to start from, just try and get one that is wide enough......

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

I've just stripped a caravan for its chassis. It does look a good base, especially for a mini, not too big, axle is strong enough to cope, has brakes etc

Just got to pull the finger out and get it built.

My trailer started off life as a caravan, as you say the wheels are a little close which limits what I put on there, but other wise it's been great.

The only problem I can see with converting a caravan chassis is that you won't have a propper chassis plate on it telling you how much it can tow. If you get stopped by VOSA they probably won't like that...

I've always wondered this. My trailer has no plate as it was made before the regs stipulated one. who would be prepared to say how much it could carry?

Doesn't matter really - make a plate up that suits what you put on it. So if your Mini is 550kg, make a plate up that says it can carry 600kg - you'll be within its limits legally and no risk of you going over the MAM of you tow car combination when its empty etc.

My trailer will squeeze a 205 on, so I'll be better maxing out what the MAM of the towcar is.

I passed my test in 1991, so no worries about towing any weight really.
