The GT1548 is an excellent choice for a midpowered engine with excellent driveability. As a guess the 49 is very similar, what are the A/Rs.

The 48 has a a comp A/R of 0.48 and a turbine of 0.35

Turbo Tel used a GT1548 on his 1293 with great results. See if you can get a compressor map for the turbo, see how it compares with that and then it's up to you if you think it will suit your application or not

EDIT: WIl beat me to it

That sounds like it could definately be of use on a big bore, depending on what you want from a turbo motor. What sort of boost are you thinking of running?

I'd agree, a good choice for 150 or 160bhp at 12psi based on a guess that it's similar to the 48, but a bit smaller

The metro turbo head isn't really any better than an spi cooper head. If anything it will probably flow worse.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

OK, it sounds like that turbo will definately suit you then. The next step is to think about a manifold. I'm guessing it wont have a T2 or T3 flange so you will more than likely have to make an adapter plate

this is it so has the 3 prong set up....maybe it will go on a mirage manifold set up?

I have a 3 bolt flange on my GT1544S so I made my own manifold. I didn't want to spend money on a manifold that I would have to modify. Remember, the mirage downpipe will be next to useless aswell

They do. The GT1549 isn't listed though

cheers for the advice gary :)

have you seen the set up where people bolt onto the clutch housing i am wondering the positives of this,

but if i am making a bespoke manifold and downpipe would this be better?

No problem. Paul S built an over the clutch manifold for his GT2056 but the main reason for this was to avoid a bulkhead box. The GT15 series are small enough to fit in the conventional location without cutting the bulkhead. I don't know if there are any performance gains/losses between the two setups.

That was the beauty of the GT1548-- T2 flange Though I don't know if anyone has actually fitted one to a Mirage as yet..

Remember the outlet of the GT15 is different. The outlet is a 4 bolt oval(ish) affair.

I went here..

http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/applicatio...senger_cars.php

Found a gasket that fitted the turbo then used the gasket drawing to make up the flange.. I guess the outlet flange will be the same as mine if so I already have the gasket drawing if you need it..

You need to find the part number of the gasket from the turbo parts listings and type it in the search box at the top. (use the "gaskets" dropdown)

Because it's got four giant rubbish exhaust valve stems which do nothing good except reducing the valve throat area which is... no good *wink*
