I have a brand new quaife gearset with the following ratios 2.877,1.827,1.329,1:1.

I'm not overly clued up on gear ratios and the like, i have been told these are probably not suited to a sprint/trackday car? From what i can tell the ratios are too widely spread to be usable for what i need.

What are peoples opinions on this, could they be made usable with certain final drive ratios? Car will be on 13's.

About time someone bought that set!

It is exceptionally well suited to a turbo engine with the slightly wider ratio's.

But if you don't want it - I'll give yo 200 quid for it!

Hmm that is good to hear.

I had searched, and saw some posts where you had mentioned a quaife kit, but didnt know you ment this wider kit.

From the way i understand it, it'll probably want a 'shorter' final drive than normal then?

Depends what you want - and what engine you have?

I'll assume it's a 120-160hp 1275 - if so - Persoanlly, I'd stick a 2.95 or 3.1 in there, and enjoy the same equivalent (ish) start gear as a 3.44 diff on a conventional SC gearset, but with the lower cruising RPM of the taller diff.

If your mini is a lightweight, it might pull a 2.75 diff easilly as well.

Its intented for a 8v K-headed turbo charged lump in a lighweight car (shell not dissimilar to jims) to do a few sprints and trackdays with.

You have the perfect gearkit for an all-rounder then (IMO)

Thanks for the advice guys, will stick it in the box and see how i get on. Just wanted a bit of reassurance, before it lost all of its value by being fitted.

Hmm, thinking about final drive ratios, running the above gear set, 1:1 S/C drops, 160/515/13 tyres.

I'm tempted to try a 3.765, what are peoples thoughts on this?

I personally will be using a 3.44:1 That will give approximately 125mph at 7500rpm.

Depends on your target top speed/power/intended use really. If you'll never exceed 120mph then go for the 3.7:1

I've never trackday'd or sprinted a mini, so i dont really know what to expect, i'd assume that the accelleration is more important than top speed though?
