Hi

I have been rebuilding my engine over the past couple of months and here it is as of today, I am hopefully going to be re-fitting it back in to the mini next weekend.

Here is a few pictures:

I have to adjust the cam timing, valve clearences and clutch lever travel.

Should I also put anything on the cork seal between head and rocker cover, or just sit it on there?

Is there anything else people might be able to suggest that I may have forgotten to do before it goes back in?

Thanks

Jon

I always use Hylomar on both sides of the gasket - it helps to keep it in place and ensures a seal.
The engine looks good, by the way *smiley*. Whats the gold coloured item half way down the block on the left hand side - a breather?

Thats an oil pressure gauge.

Links to the electronic gauge on the dash.

Here is a few more pics:

The full rotating assembly has been balanced to under .5 of a gram each end. Also the conrods are fully balance.

The head is from Benross, Omega 0.006 pistons and Minisport Special Grind Cam, similar characteristics to Kent 296 but smoother for the road, but obviously not too smooth.

I did struggle to identify the cam but found out from previous owner.

Let me know what you think

Thanks

Jon

Im not sure what the bolts are, they came with the centre main strap when I bought it so would assume they are up to the job.

Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups though *wink* The bolts supplied with alot of straps are lower quality that the originals (3 dash as apposed to 6 dash). I think gavin recently got decent bolts in the minispares kits recently though. Do you have any more pcs of them?

I bought the strap from 'Johnspeed', dont have any other pictures but it said they were High Tensile bolts, I really can't imagine them being not up to the job, they would have sold a lot of these I would have thought.

Cheers

3 dash are still classified as high tensile but the lowest quaility high tensile. 3 dash are insufficeint. Companies couldn't give a shite if they sell you useless parts as long as they get your money

Jon,

A fair bit of discussion here, hence why I thought about it when I saw the photo.

Hi

I have bought a new manifold as recommended and have an rc40 exhaust which will be up for the job.

The head I have is from Benross and it has been calculated to give spot on compressions for the cam.

I am also going to change the carb as well, I completely agree about you might as well not run it without going the whole hog so thats what I am going to do.

Thanks for the advice, Because i dont have any more pictures of the bolts I have emailed the company to double check the strength, I would rather change them if they are not up to the job.

Thanks for all the positive comments

Jon
