I've cut the lambda wires on my 205 to get the exhaust off. The sensor itself was err.. stuck. really stuck.

However, I did one stupid thing, that was cutting the two white wires the same length. I've learnt now that it's a good idea to not to...*wink*

However.. Those two white wires, do they need to be connected correctly, or are they "measuring" the same thing?

You know what I mean :)

I think they are just the heater.

pretty sure black is normally sense, and grey & white are heater.

Two white wires are usually the heater wires. According to this site: http://www.lambdasensor.com/main/mcolours1.htm They are not polarised so you can reconnect them either way.

Yeah, white are just heater and they can be connected up either way. I believe the sensor just acts like a resistor with battery voltage in through one of the heater wires and a residial voltage out. The resistance is what generates the heat. I think 3 wire sensors are earthed through the exhaust so the remaining wire is signal

as above, 2 white wires are heater and not polarity dependant, other wire is the signal wire and grounded through the exhaust :)

Mine's got both a lambda and a cat, but that's in the bin for now..
It starts without the wires connected though...

All cars start without the lambda sensor as an input. They run open loop until the sensor has completed it's heat up routine
