im wiring up my mini and im puzzled by the oil pressure switch

in my simple head id imagine it grounds the current at low pressures, and then breaks the circut (to turn the dash light off) at a higher pressure

however all the ones i have seem to to the opposite?

Ive tested 3 now and the light stays off , and when i start the engine, it then comes on...?

How should i wire this up?

Cheers

Joe

You could either buy the other type or wire it through a relay? if that makes sense. I've been sorting mine recently as I'm using the switch for the light and the fuel pump wiring, which got me confused for a bit

You must have 3 metro turbo ones. These work backwards to how you would expect. Get a mini one and all will be well.

ill have to have a dog around

tom, can i ask what the logic in that is? i was thinking tonight it could be used to cut off the fuel pump if the engine dies...

I'll be wiring the van's light into the relay for the fuel pump as we're putting a turbo switch onto a n/a loom

Most likely the same way the ignition warning light works, ie it has 12V on the other side so lights when it is fed 0V (engine stationary) and goes out when it is fed 12V plus from the alternator.
On the Metro turbo the oil pressure switch operates the fuel pump relay which is where the 12V will most likely come from to extinguish the oil pressure warning bulb.

Old thread i know but i cant start a new one, anyway do you think this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OIL-PRESSURE-SWITCH-...=item2c5144e513 will enable me to run a fuel pump off the oil pressure and retain a dash light (that works teh right way round) looking at the era diagram http://www.eraturbo.co.uk/technical/technical.htm i cant see how the light comes on when the oil pressure falls?

Ah it has positive feeds from both sides when there is oil pressure, think this means i can get away with only 1 pressure switch and still have a lamp :)

Why does the Ebay one have 3 terminals instead of 1?
Maybe it is a change-over switch which would make wiring the lamp even easier.

Yeah thought it was a bit strange, think i'll use a standard one and wire it as per the diagram, quite a clever way to wire it..
