Long story but when I was collecting parts 6-7 years ago (although I never got properly motivated until 18 months ago) I got these off one of the apprentices at work.

He told me they were Innocenti doors and he wanted a lot of money for them (he got a lot less than he wanted !!!).

I know the Innocentis had the quarterlights but I think a lot of Oz / Australian models did too.

I don't think they are genuine,

The bottom attachment of the runners seems bodged.

The mechanisms are certainly different, only one raise/lower bar and winder in a different position (red outline), making me think the windows have been bodged into a standard door but there is one other difference, namely the armrest, doorpull is at a different angle (green outline)

Anyone have any experience ???

I have enough good bits (door shells, glass, mechanisms) to make one good door each side of either design from all the bits but are the black ones real Innocenti, is it worth it, and will it look better.

I'm right down to the last few bits to put the shell together and can't decide.......

EDIT - Title bar

They just look like early 80's doors that have been bodged to me.

Oz doors had different door handles and exterior hinges.

Thanks Oli, that was my opinion too, although I wasn't aware of the different handles/hinges.

But where did the glass, slider bars, winder mechanisms and quarterlights actually come from then ???

innocenti doors would have internal hinges,

i belive they had a full length door pocket screwed on, the higher winder handle could be due to this.

If I understand it right, there were the Innocenti based on the classic Mini, then their own,

This is the classic, with the quarterlights

http://www.inno-mini-world.com/

And then I'm pretty certain the Aus market used the same....

However, where the hell did the glass, and all the other bits I've got come from ???

EDIT - posts crossed while I was typing....

This is an Australian Clubman. Door handles are completly different. I'd have a set for my car if I could get them. Also, external hinges.

EDIT: MK 4 onwards doors had the pull handles at an angle. Earlier doors had verticle handles. Most doors have the holes for the screw lugs for both types of handles.

OK,

So it all points to my doors being a set of Innocenti or Aus glass and associated hardware being bodged into Mk 2/3/4 internal hinge UK doors, but,

a - where did it come from,

and,

b - is it worth building it up like this ???

I think it looks a bit more "retro" and I kind of like it - one of my previous road cars was a Dolly Sprint which was the same look and, if my memory were good enough I think my Imps were the same ???

I want this build to be a bit of a "sleeper", 6X10" alloys won't be too obvious and should just fit under standard arches, no lifted bonnet etc...

But I think the quarterlights are quite "cool".

Personally, if i was you, i'd take all the parts you have a try and make a decent set of doors, with the quarterlights, but try to make it a neater installation.

I think you should definatley go with the quarterlights, they look well cool, and will probably work better than the std type too,

I'd keep the quaterlites, it will be a subtle change that will make the car stand out, but you won't know why unless you know (if you get what I mean).

I'm sure it won't take much to neaten up the runners etc

@ Rod S

At the first glance I would believe you have genuine INNOCENTI
MINI doors.

The window handle (for moving the window down and up) is an INNOCENTI MINI one!
(as I own since more than 25 years innocentis, but never looked behind the inner vinyl covered panels)

It looks for me, that you also have the version with quarterlights which could be opened.
Innocentis with those quarterlights were sold in Italy (hotter climate) whereas in Germany only Innocentis with "fixed quarterlights" were officially imported and sold.

Innocenti (classic) Mini production did end Dez. 1974/Jan. 1975 at the factory near MILANO/ITALY.

As your doors have internal hinges .... should be MK III one's ..... built probaly in the years 1970 till the end of production.

regards

Well, looking at the eBay link from Benjamin and looking more closely at Andy's earlier piccy, mine are NOT Australian ones..... the Aus ones have a longer (bigger) quarterlight and the bottom front corner is cut away.

W&P..... possibly - right size and shape - but not electric (but maybe they did both electric and manual ???).

Innocenti, from what Fritz says, most likely but only the internal bits in my case. I've dismantled the doors now and the giveaway is that the three small pop rivets that hold the quarterlight frame in place have been drilled through the door frame in slightly the wrong place and have missed the factory hole in the quarterlight frame so whoever did it just carried on drilling and the brackets on the qaurterlight frame now have two holes each, one nice and central (factory) and one at random, all six brackets.....

The other bummer, when I went to clean it all up and try and trace the glass part numbers, one of the quarterlight's glass isn't...... it's been replaced by a bit of perspex. *frown*
