Hello guys, looking here at a 1505 crankshaft (Austin america here in the states). I am thinking i would like to give a try at wedging it myself. I am a machinist by trade and have a mill here at home. But I got to thinking there may be more to this than just whacking metal off the rod end and tapering it to the other side of the main bearing. I know that they weigh the rods and put a counterweight on the rod journal to balance it. My question( 1st part) is how much of the rod do they account for 50/50 or do they average it out? (2nd part) if you are making the rod end lighter do you have to make the counterweight end lighter also? Could you weld more counter weight on so it looks like the sprite crank. If you add more weight on the counterweight side what effect will it have? This is for my spare race engine and if it works out i will continue to do it on future engines so it will see 8000 rpm with max torque at 6200. Aaron Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar |
