on my clubby since the rr and rwyb its had a strange sound coming from the front, its on both sides now hold on im gonna try describe the sound *happy*

if you was to say the word Coffee but only pronounce the 'C' that is sort of the sound it makes *hehe!*

anyway things i have done, and rechecked today
*4 ball joints - properly set and bedded in
*2 wheel bearings (before the trip) again zero play ( thanks to minimadmoto...for the hub)
*both shocks exchanged for my gaz adjustable's ( and then back)
*zero play in the trackrods on both the hub end and the rack end
*new discs n pads maybe 3000 miles ago re-con callipers then aswell

i cannot replicate the sound with it in the air and like i say almost zero play now ( handles like a dream though)
it makes the sound at any slight bump, and over cats eys is the worst

subframe is solid mounted on the floor, polly on top and front

im stumped...any clues ?

*happy*

Are the knuckle joints dry? I had a customers car in recently that was making an awful noise as the floor was cracked around the front subframe mounts. I repaired this and it then drove in a straight line but still made an awful noise over bumps. After checking and tightening anything I could think of I eventually tracked it down to a knuckle joint with a split boot and no grease in it. A quick squirt of duck oil and it was silent, obviously it then needed the knuckles changing but the guy who owned it was going to be fitting hi-los soon so he got me to leave that for him to sort out.

My old clubman did this. It had a relay in the front of the loom for the lights. It wasn't fastened down and used to tap on the subframe making a clinking noise. Took me ages to track it down...

When you did the bottom balljoints did you shim them without the spring, then fit the spring afterwards?
Catches out a lot of people

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

theres a point on part of the inner dash rail next to the baulkhead possibly just below where the right hand speedo bracket mounts that usualy splits and gives a nice squeek, ive seen this on at least 40 cars. might be worth looking at

Tom - knuckle joints - more than possible it was very full when i first noticed it
Andy - i do have dangling relays or flasher units i think they are i will secure them
Paul - im almost certain i shimmed without the spring as i went by the book to rule out sloppy ball joints i seem to have a problem with cant help to re check though
scruffy - that would be just my luck too
MONSTER HEDGEHOG - thats on the list too but it does sound an outside sort of noise

cheers guys
