I see nothing there that makes me want to remove the wrap. Reduced life? OK with me. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Ive used it for about 6 years now without any probs, but since I took mine off to modify the manifold, I am questioning spending £40 odd to replace it now. I seriously doubt it! |

I reckon I'll give it a miss myself as long as my under bonnet temps are ok. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I think that it would be a bad idea to fit wrap to a thin wall exhaust header and little to be gained.

I think that it would be a bad idea to fit wrap to a thin wall exhaust header and little to be gained. Wrapping a cast iron Metro turbo manifold will be fine. Also OK if the manifold is fabricated from thick wall tubing. You have to balance the benefit of retaining the heat to help drive the turbine and lower under-bonnet temperatures with the potential to shorten the life of the engine. In theory. Thats what i got out of the article. Make the manifold thick and your pretty safe.

TBH I cant see the heat being that bad for the engine. I have seen the centre branch of my LCB glowing red after a spirited drive (before fitting the wrap). Ive used wrap for about 6 years now and had no adverse effects, I did have to lean off the carb after fitting though which showed another few bananas.
I seriously doubt it! |

I'm not convinced about the heat ending up in the head. If this was happening then the whole engine temp would increase i.e. your engine would run hotter. the engine temp is regulated by the thermostat, so as long as your cooling system has capacity, this shouldn't be a problem.
