Is it a mk1 loom for alternator or dynamo?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

It sounds like you have a few issues there, for a start though you wont have a heavy enough wire to go from the post marked A to the battery in the standard loom.
Ill have a look in my mk1 manual and get back to you, Ill try to remember how I did my alternator.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Right, you say youre alt resembles the second pic

Post A should be connected to the positive battery terminal or main batter cable, so starter motor or solenoid should be fine.

Post B should be a switched ign live, so use a check light to see that this is only live whilst the ignition is switched on.

Post C should be connected to the ignition warning light, check this at the alternator with a test lamp and the ignition switched on.

At the top of the speedo should be a small stud sticking out of the rear case, have you got the earths securely attatched?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

hi mate

(well this is live all the time )

Post C should be connected to the ignition warning light, check this at the alternator with a test lamp and the ignition switched on. (and this works on the dash if i test it with a test lamp )

At the top of the speedo should be a small stud sticking out of the rear case, have you got the earths securely attatched? ( i have had a go at this to and its all done up )

this is doing my head in now and the haynes is not helping i have done 20 fags tonight so far

If youre using a mk1 ign switch Id guess its wired up wrong.
There are 3 terminals on the switch and 2 wires. One wire is +ve from the fuse, I think its white. The other wire I cant remember the colour of atm.
2 of the 3 terminals are connected on the switch and Im guessing you might have both the wires attatched to these.
So make sure you are only using the outer terminals of the switch to connect the wires to

Paul
