When down the scrap yard at the weekend I stumbled across an almost mint Sprite with just about everything intact. Also from the looks of it (I’m 99% sure) has an original engine. Although it does have 2 fans, one attached to the engine as standard and another attached to the inner wing *Confused*

I have been on the search for a 12G940 head for my 998 build for some time and upon removing the rocker cover I am 99% sure it has one. I have had a good search around on here and TMF but cannot find any confirmation. Can anyone confirm that sprites came with the 12G940 heads as standard and if so did they have the bigger valves. From what I have found out the bigger valves were only on MG’s

Please help as the mini is balanced nicely on top of a minibus with not a lot of access to the engine bay. Don’t want to go through the hassle of removing it and paying for it if it is not the right head.

Thanks loads

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

yes the sprites did sport bigger inlet valves 1.4 inch it will have 12g940 cast in the top of the head if you take the cover off, some were also fitted with 12g 1805 the early casting again with the bigger inlets this is ..... stamped! near the thermostat housing and will sport the 11 stud pattern for the head bolts ...... hope this helps!

Mini Sprite, what year?

Edit, I think the electric fan gives it away.

No the Mini Sprite 1275 head is a boggo standard 33/29mm valve head with unleaded seats. This head should be more than enough for a 998

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks Guys.

Would the standard 33/29 mm valves be best for a 998 turbo then. I assume the big valve head might be a bit overkill.

The head will also need reworking to get the cr correct, is it worth porting pollishing etc is is this a bit overkill also.

Benross PM sent in reply to you one.

Cheers

these are optimum valve sizes for a 998
