i have a 1380 morspeed track day engine, with a stage 5 head for
a Webber 45, ph2 cam, i am wanting to go down the turbo route, with a bhp of around 180, i have spent most of the day, looking through the FAQ section. Am i write in thinking that all i need to do is change the pistons to 18cc and change the oil pump, i already have a sc gearbox with x pin, i would also have to change the clutch plate from orange to grey. I have a new body shell, so i would fit the mirage manifold kit, what would be the best turbo to use, i will use the largest inter cooler i can fit.Any other help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

Good work on hitting the FAQ section.

Have a go with the search tool too.

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=search

I'm sure a few people may answer your questions in more depth than me but the answers are not as black and white as your statements make them out to be.

18cc pistons may not give you the right compression you will have to calculate your compression ratio and choose it depending on your desired boost.

It has been proven that you can use a standard oil pump.

sc box & x-pin is good. do you have sc drops as 180 bhp will certainly need them.

A grey cover may not even be sufficient for 180bhp you may need double grey or you could also invesigate double verto. (search for RTS clutch)

The mirage manifold allows you to fit the T2 from a renault 5 or hybrid variations of this.

Good luck!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Also you would need a turbo spec hif44, plenum, fuel pressure regulator, high pressure pump etc etc. Again all the info is in the FAQ and search.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

the best turbo seems to be the gt1752 atm alot of people rate it, i dont think its a straight fit onto the mirage manifolds though.
i asked about the pumps alot use the std n/a pump, the turbo pump offering more flow
you want a set of forged either acrylite ore omega they are arguably the best 2 piston sets, the large dish is obviously to get the cr down but i suspect your current engine will be a high compression and the head maybe needs the combustion chambers opening up.
for ease of instalation ditch the webbers and fit a HIF44 turbo carb and manifold

have a look over the rolling road day threads and see what sort of spec people are running to get 180ponies i dont know how a gray cover will handle 180 maybe a double gray will be needed

Shropshire.

i would probabley just sell the head you have if its a high compression item, then get another head and get it opened up with a lower C/R.

A grey clutch is fine at 170 horses

forged pistons are not required as i (and many others) use cast omegas with no issues.

thank you for your help so far, when i picked the engine up i was informed that the c:r was 10:1, i am a bit disappointed in the cylinder head, it cost me £500.00 200 miles ago. if i type in gt1752 for the turbo, it takes me to the saab forum site, most saab owners want to ditch this turbo for the t25, i can get a hybrid t25 from mirage(please dont shoot the messenger about the turbo)would this be better, however i want the turbo to kick in at the lowest possible
revs.

the gt1752 is indeed from a saab i believe 93 turbo? search for gt1752 on here and there is loads of threads,

the t25 (along with the t2 and t3) is an old design using old technology the newer gt series give great throttle response and a low boost threshold with little lag

the only positive in the saab camp i can think of is more boost at a sacrifice to having to wait longer to use it

there is mounds of info on the garret website if you dont know much about turbo's how to size them or read the compressor maps, they have some very good information and explanations

i am not saying that is the best turbo for your particular use just there is good engines putting down good figures with that turbo with the boost coming in almost from the off

i will be using a t2 to start with then more than likely move on to a gt17
