Hi

I am attempting to fit one of these, but am struggling badly.

I have cut the old roof and knocked down the edges as best as I can, but it still seems too small. I can get it to fit properly on one side, but not the other, but it does not have preference for one side over the other.

Any ideas from you that have done it? I know there are a few with one on here.

Hi, short answer is they don’t fit exactly to the size of the original roof.. they are smaller.

I blended mine to the 2 / 3" strip of remaining steel roof section with fibreglass, filler and then gel coat.

Took a good few days of work to get it right..

I wanted a nice carbon showing roof.. No such luck.

okay,

One thing I did think about was to remove the complete original skin and then weld a lip or some brackets on the inside of where the original roof was. Then rivet it or glue it to those. That would ensure that I could fit it properly, but I guess I will need a bead of silicone where it meets the shell to keep it watertight. I dont know how strong it would be though.... What do you think?I have a pretty substantial cage after all...

Yup mines got the same problem along the front edge, i used some light duty ratchet straps over the roof and through the door + window openings to pull it down into place.

i looked at a few options.. but in the end i opted to leave the lip and bond the new roof on..

im not sure you can ever get it to look spot on with out blending it like I did..

now that MAY be an idea, but I think I will still struggle to get it close as I tried something similar using my hands, and it didn't really help much.

Personally i wouldnt be too keen on removing the roof lip, it'll lose all of the strength out of the top of the car, unless you tie it to the cage at the top of the shell.

Good point!

Tieing it to the cage would not be very difficult though, as both the A pillars and b pillars are to be tied in already as the cage is made with that in mind. I could also tie the front edge of the roof to the cage along there.

I dont know how much strength one would loose really, as its quite flimsy as it is, and got even worse with knocking the edge down...

I think you'll be ok making the lip where you need it, as long as you tie the cage to the pillars

so you would make a complete lip or do you think 10 x 20 cm or so bits would suffice?

I think bits would surface, depending you had enough, although I think I complete lip would look better from inside
