i have been thinking af changing my trailer for a very long time now and with me being homeless and most importantly morgage less soon i think the new year will be a good time to buy

What do you think about single axle trailers? Ifor williams makes a nice compact trailer and my local trailer dealer is ifor williams
http://www.iwt.co.uk/products/cartrans/ct115.htm

Or something like the woodford, same unladen weight and width but 6 inches shorter
http://woodfordtrailers.com/woodfordtrailers4_024.htm

I like my current trailer its nice and easy to tow and very stable at 80 so i am thinking twin axle for stability, one thing that fucks me off with the twin axle is man-handling it even with a jockey wheel wound up

Thoughts or other products?

I went through all these questions before - the generaly consensus was that most prefered a twin axle if they had the choice; having said that, they are harder to manhandle.

our last trailer was a very short twin axle (only just fitted a mini estate on) and was very light. I don't honestly think there is any pre-built options like it.

What about getting a custom build by one of the manufacturers?

How about something secondhand like this:

I'm happy to compromise on man handling for towing stability and security of an extra axle (i.e. if you have a blowout on the trailer).

You could invest in those motors that move the trailer if man handling is a big issue. http://www.rhynomovers.com/ there are others, this is the first one I found.

Twin axle is much harder to manhandle, and more drag when towing. I much prefer single axle, towed my mini 850km round trip to Albany and appreciated the lighter weight.

Hey Wolfie, I've got the woodford 10'x5.5'' lightweight, and it's a lovely trailler.

mine's got a home made tyre rack and winch built into it, as well as the standard spare wheel and locks, and I picked it up 6 months old for £700.

I've always had twin axle traillers before thinking they were far superiour, but i got this wanting something small and easy to store, as well as ligth weight and easy to move around.

it fits the mini perfectly, and tows really nicely, around the lanes it's not too bumpy, and the brakes are pretty good.

on the motorway, I'm yet to have any sort of wobble from it at all, and I've taken it up to about 85 with a mini on the back and it's absolutely fine.

the jacks all round are lovely, as are the ramps and stowing system.

all in all, I think it's a very decent alternative to ifor williams or Brian James at a more sensible price

I bought a Brian James Clubman, which is the cheapest twin axle in the right size they do, but as ever with BJT its the add ons that ramp up the cost like side stands, spare wheel, winch, hitch lock etc.
They seem to keep their value very well, and I'm happy with it.

The only fault really is I had to make the number plate mount on the bed, as it was too low on the rear crossmember and caught reversing up into our drive.

If I were to buy a new trailer, I would buy this:

http://www.brianjames.co.uk/pages/trailers/minno_sht.html

Yes, it's more expensive, but having a roof makes all the difference. Also, much better if moving stuff after blasting/priming etc.
In addition you can sleep in it if stuck etc..

I agree vegard, I used one last weekend, very handy to have the car arrive drive. Also it's a bit more secure whilst the trailer is parked outside the pub. You can also use it to carry sheep too

Exactly my line of though. The leaving outside without fearing that all is gone after a pint, not the sheep-loving part.

I couldn't agree more Vegard - I bought my trailer used in 2001 & had it covered in 2002 and have done many thousands of miles with it

I brought a Brian James Minno brand new 8years ago, a superb trailer, I sold it 2yrs ago and got back virtualy what I'd paid for it. I now have a Minno Shuttle again a superb trailer, it doubles up as a rain cover for us and a fibre glass tent for weekend events.

I have a PRG that I bought from Carl on here.
Im impressed by it, it only fits a mini on and as of yet I havent had any moments whilst towing even trying to keep up with Jim.

Pretty easy to move too
