Following on from the noisy bearings, I found someone local to work who could refurb my mpi alternator.

Refitted it tonight, and almost all is well, it charges and runs quietly, but the starter solenoid runs constantly when the lights are on. I only realised this when I turned the engine off after testing the alternator and the side lights were still on. I assume it runs while the engine is running, but I cannot hear it over the engine noise.

I double checked I connected the alternator wiring correctly, no starter wiring has been disturbed, and I had a spare alternator fitted that I got from ebay that worked fine, so I guess there is a problem with the refurbed one.

I will ring them tomorrow, but anyone have thoughts on what the fault could be?

Thanks

Well, that wasn't what I thought it was. It seems the o/s headlamp adjustment motor has started doing impressions of a starter solenoid. At least it's an easy fix :)
