I missed this one somehow.
Very interesting, confirms that it's possible to get decent power from the std 998 head. I must have messed up somewhere in my first setup based on the std head.

A few updates...

Picked up some Ford air and water temp sensors to help Megasquirt and so I can keep an eye on the charge temps.

Made some bits up to fit them to the car.

Before you ask, the output from this is split and some goes through the turbo straight back to the water system and the other goes round the in-car heater. So there is always flow.



and..



Took the car for a test run and made some logs. Peak air temp was 40 degC. Both seem to have calibrated ok and show what i'd be expecting. Water temp matches the dash one.


Interestingly since doing this the loud induction noise I once got has gone, no sure why. I can now hear the engine when on full boost.

Since fitting the 12G295 head over Christmas i've felt like the car was lacking some power compared to its previous spec but just assumed this was due to poor tuning because I didn't have the funds to get it on the rollers. It was poor off boost and not great on boost.

Added to this, I'd been getting a misfire on boost for last few days. Sorted it out now though. It was due to a spark plug not working correctly. Changed that and now the car scares the shit out of me. Feels more like the 100 bhp I was hoping for. So the plug must've been hindering the car since crimbo.

Anywho, all dandy now :)

Yeah would love to. It's going on a different set on Tuesday. My dad managed to get a good deal for his MG and the chap said I can tag along and get my timing and fuelling checked.

Been to the rollers today to get the ignition timing checked out.

Tried Ajec Racing in Gloucester. It's a good place. Friendly chap.

Pleased with the results. Has a lot more pull at the top end due to it not dropping off now.

nice numbers, peaking at over 6K must be a screamer,

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

Here is plotted the comparisons between states of engine tune...

I've only plotted every 500 rpm so the plots are quite coarse

Blue is modified standard head at 8 psi
Green is 12G295 at 11 psi basic map
Orange is 12G295 at 12 psi with tuned map




The standard head produced better low down. It came on boost very easily too. Same peak torque just lower in the range.
