Were you by any chance doing a monster emergency start when that happened? I've only ever seen one like that before, and that was caused as above.

just had a quick look at the crank and yes its a CAM6581, i take it thats a turbo crank as just had quick read, will be finishing stripping tomorrow

it happened as i put my foot down (in4th) and just went pop so turned engine off straight away, no visible damage apart from where the flywheel had started to chew up the bell housing
would could of caused that to snap like that?

anyone know the size socket to fit conrods?

1/2" socket, but make sure its not a six sided one.

specs where

1275 (was told 1293 but by looks of it its not)
SC drop gears
rolling rockers
has been cammed as it was very lumpy
twin branch manifold
metro carb (no good with names/numbers)
electric dizzy
ported and polished head

thats all i can think of at the moment in time.

it used to sit very nicely at around 5500-6k cruising without it noking its b******s off ect and thenyou could give it some up to about 7200 until you used to get a bit scared as i would say and not wanting to take it anymore

just a small update as got a couple bits the other day inc
Refurbish T3 unit, Should do the job with power im after and setup for road use ect, then having the benefit of nitrous to spool it up a bit quicker

Also iv decided to not go down the mirage manifold route as i got hold of a bulkhead box cheaply so that has saved me a bit of cash,

RS turbo actuator,manifold,bulkhead box

this came up cheap so i couldn't say no really! wasn't planning on buying it this early on in the stage but as i said was a bargain price! its brand new,it came with a bottle warmer and a twin purge valve as well

weekend i will be finish striping the rest of the crank out and the camshaft to get it sent to be honed out 20thou and also 2 new studs drilled in for the 11stud head

cheers

Nice. You won't regret going turbo. You won't need 7200rpm to make the power.

You will regret going turbo trust me! I decided i would give my car a strip down and tidy up with a semi-built turbo motor.

That was 2 years ago and its now turned into a full blown track car with number plates. And a long way to go!

Good luck mate, hopefully you've got more will power to resist the temptation that awaits you on this forum! The standard of build is just too damn high!!

Your car looks nicely done, and your spec sounds good for a decent road car. Just watch your gearbox when you (inevitably) start to wind the boost up.

had this car for years now and i have a 2nd motor now so i can do what ever i please with it(aka it can be as uncomfortable ,bumpy, loud, empty as it likes) saying that its all that anyway!, The interior is coming out with a full cage and buckets ect anyway to save a bit of weight

i have lost my memory card for my camera at the moment so i only have iphone photos

just another small update im sure you all have seen before anyway!

Spent today striping the rest of the block to check it for any damage. block is now ready to be bored out for new pistons when i order them from avonbar. Also whilst i was at it i gave it a good clean ready for some paint! any tips of removing core plugs? didn't want to push them inside.

also slapped the old head on just to get a rough idea where the tubby sits so i can make up so oil feeds and return

i think that should just clear:lol:

cheers

got bored of waiting around doing nothing and waiting for parts to turn up (one being a minispares straight cut gearbox8-) so i gave it a lick of paint before sending it off to the machine shop (Black is the new red ok! its what they use for 200hp not like the 100hp red: *hehe!* ) and before anyone says i left the core plugs in as im replacing them with new ones etc

also just started to balance my con rods at work last weekend a little more time consuming them i first thought but should all be worth it im sure:)

Ok i thought i would get the ball rolling on this again as i have pretty much finished rebuilding my other (so he says:lol:) so after trying to work out what comp ratio i was stuck on what pistons to chose but with help from Benross he has given me some calculations on the comp ratio i need and how much to take out the head as follows

1293 cc
Swept 323.25 cc
Unswept 21 cc Head Vol
18 cc Piston dish
3.8 cc Head Gasket (compressed)
4 cc Ring Lands
Total US 46.8 cc
(7.9:1) and around 20psi of boost

soon as i had the comp ratio i needed i have gone and ordered me a set of Forged OMEGA pistons with a 18cc

so now i'm just waiting for them to arrive so i can get my bottom end down to the machine shop to get it all balanced and the block bored out

my specs is now looking along lines of this
-+20thou to 1293,
-Forged Omega +20 18cc pistons
-T3 turbo (rebuilt) with RS turbo actuator
-Standard flywheel, (lightened and balanced)
-Standard Conrods inc ARP Bolts,(lightened and balanced)
-Center main strap
-Ported out manifold and elbow
-Benross worked head with 21cc chamber
-Fuel regulator
-8mm Fuel lines
-Minispares Clubman Straight cut gearbox (close ratio) with X-pin diff, center pick-up,Straight cut drop gears
-Cold fusion nitrous kit (wet) + (25bhp shots)
-Punto GT FMIC
-Uprated water pump
-Avonbar uprated Oil pump
-Avonbar CAMSHAFT PHASE2 Kit
-High Grade Cam followers
-Duplux Timing chain
-Mega squirt ignition

Will update when i get the bits back from machine shop

cheers8-)

7:9:1 is going to be a pig off boost..

i take it that this is a 'track only' car ??

Same here I usually use a max of 2cc myself.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
